SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis posted a 9-5 come-from-behind win over Pleasant Grove behind a complete game by Jada Kanemasu and three-hit games by Danika Baily and Lauren Washburn Friday.

Pleasant Grove scored four in the top of the first inning aided by a three-run home run by Katherine Antigua. But St. Francis, which rallied from four down against Pleasant Grove earlier in the season to win 12-10, rallied behind their offense and Kanemasu.

“What happened last time helped us today because we knew it was the kind of team that even if we got down early we can come back and score some runs,” said Head Coach Al LoGiudice. “Jada did a good job of holding the opposition to half the runs they scored last time. It was exciting to see her come up with a big seven inning game today.”

Kanemasu allowed five runs on nine hits over seven innings.

“She did a phenomenal job today and had one of her best games today,” said freshman catcher Mary Baccay, who caught her performance. “She had her drop was really working for her today.”

Baccay helped get the Troubadours back in the game with a first-inning triple to score the team’s first two runs of the game. She would later score to cut the deficit to one and finished with four runs batted in.

“It was a pretty key hit in the game and helped get us in the flow of the game,” said Mary Baccay.

St. Francis (11-10, 5-3) would tie the game at 4 and 5 before scoring four in the fifth inning for the final margin. Emily Ainsley knocked in the go ahead run and Baccay added a based loaded hit by pitch.

“It is our strength with our hitting and we got some solid defense and pitching,” said LoGiuduce. “Today was a great example scoring nine runs against a good team.”

Bailey went 3 for 4 with three runs scored, while Washburn added three hits and two RBI.

Mary Baccay also added a key defensive play, throwing out Sabrina Hicks in the second inning. It was the first time she had been thrown out this season, entering the game with a league-best 22 steals.

“She set the tone early when she threw out that runner because she had not been thrown out all season long,” said LoGiudice. “It set the stage, the game within the game, and her timely hit in the first inning was big. We are so proud of what she did today.”

St. Francis plays at home next week against Davis on Wednesday.
