Basketball Posts 58-48 Win over Elk Grove

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Kyra Huffman scored 14 of her 18 points as St. Francis pulled away from Elk Grove in the second half for a 58-48 victory in a Delta League matchup.

“We took the pain of losing Saturday and turned it into some fire today,” said Huffman. “We do not want to lose any more games. It felt really good to be back on our home court.”

The Troubadours trailed at the half 21-19 as Thundering Herd junior Mira Shulman scored nine points. She finished with a game-high 22 points.

St. Francis (12-4) posted a 21-point third quarter behind Huffman’s eight. Senior Lauren Craig added seven points in the fourth and finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Janae Fairbrook chipped in eight points, five assists and five steals.

“The third quarter was the turning point and we got out of our funk,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “We played our way out of it in the third and did what we needed to in the fourth quarter.”

St. Francis hit 8 of 12 free throws in the final quarter to seal the game, including five of the last six.

Angie Ortiz added eight points in the winning efforts for the Troubabdours.

St. Francis hosts Sheldon on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. The JV and varsity games will be shown on TroubieTV.

Freshmen Update: Krysta Alvarez scored a career-high 17 points and seven boards and Brynne Burrows added 11 points, four rebounds and team-best five steals as the St. Francis freshmen posted a 38-21 victory over Del Oro Tuesday night.  Sydney Galvan led the team with eight boards. Troubies return to action Friday against Sacramento 4:00 p.m.

Junior Varsity Update: Nika Bagatelos and Lauren Pank scored in double figures as the JV team posted a 60-22 win over Elk Grove. Bagatelos had 14 points, while Pank added 14 points, four assists and four steals. Nicole Frank had seven rebounds and five steals.
