Cross Country Finishes Second at Delta League Champs

FOLSOM, Calif. – Sydney Vandegrift finished fourth overall to lead the St. Francis varsity team to a second-place finish at the Delta League Cross Country Championships Saturday at Willow Hills Reservoir.

“I felt like I didn’t do that well but it is okay because we are looking forward to sections and giving it my all,” said Vandegrift. “We did not have out best race but we still stuck together as a team.”

St. Francis placed their top five all among the Top 20 led by Vandegrift.

Freshman Sophie DeBenedetti was 11th overall and the second-best freshman in the field.

“We did really well as a team,” said DeBenedetti. “We gave it our all and thankfully we got second.”

Senior Chase Worthen was 15th (20:39) and Ariane Arndt was 16th (20:52). Gabrielle Dyer was the fifth finisher on the team in 18th overall (20:55).

Vandegrift joined DeBenedetti on the all-league team.

“It is pretty special and it is reflection of my recovery and hard work,” said Vandegrift.

The Frosh/Soph team also finished second behind the top 10 finishes by Erica Cradeur and Teresa Lee.

St. Francis will compete at the Sac-Joaquin Subsections next weekend in Angels Camp.
