Cross Country Places Three in Top 10; Finishes Second

FOLSOM, Calif. – Senior Miranda Myers led three Troubadours among the Top 10 as the St. Francis cross country team finished second at the Delta League Meet Saturday at Willow Hills Reservoir.

“I got out pretty fast in front some of the Davis girls,” said Myers. “That was the key for my race to get out fast. I held my pace and got passed once on the back loop but I think I ran the hills really well and kept pushing myself.”

Myers was third overall in 18:53, earning all-league honors for the fourth time in her career while placing among the top three every year of her career. She finished third each of the last three seasons and was second as a freshman.

St. Francis placed their top five all among the top 13, scoring 43 points. Davis won the team title behind winner Fiona O’Keeffe.

“I am proud of how we did,” said junior Ariane Arndt. “It was not exactly how we planned the race going but we still came together as a team and stayed together as a pack. It was a good race.”

Arndt was seventh overall in 19:37, earning all-league honors for the first time in cross country.

Junior Chase Worthen was ninth overall in 19:56, posting a personal-best by running under 20 minutes for the first time while posting a time 40 seconds faster from a week ago on the same course.

“It feels really good,” said Worthen. “We stayed together as a pack throughout the race despite having a few bumps. We have overcome a lot during the season and our hard work showed during our race today.”

Freshmen Ava Nkadi and Sydney Vandegrift both had strong performances in their first league championships races. They finished 11th (19:58) and 13th (20:10) overall as the top two freshmen in the field.

Senior Peyton Bilo was 15th overall (20:28), while junior Gabrielle Dyer was 17th (20:38).

The Troubadours start the postseason next week at the Sac-Joaquin Subsections in Angel Camp at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds.

“It is going to take a lot of team bonding and hard workouts,” said Myers. “We just need to keep doing what we are doing and stay positive.”

The Frosh/Soph unit won the team title in the first race as freshman Savannah McGrew was second overall.
