Cross Country Third at Bronco Invitational

FOLSOM, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team finished third at the Bronco Invitational Saturday in the first of three races at the Willow Hills Cross Country course.

Sophomore Sydney Vandegrift was fifth overall to lead the Troubadours, running the 5K course in 18:52. Senior Ariane Arndt crossed the line 11th (19:15).

“It was really good we had this race this week,” said Arndt. “You get to know the course and how you feel at certain points to prepare mentally for the next race.”

St. Francis will run the Delta League and Section Championships on the course in the coming weeks.

Freshman Sophie DeBenedetti was 21st overall and the top freshman in the field (19:41), while senior Chase Worthen finished 34th (20:16) and Gabrielle Dyer was 43rd (20:29).

“We did really good and weall came together,” said Arndt. “Sophie has stepped it up a lot which is awesome. I am pretty excited.”

St. Francis was third overall with 11 points behind only Bella Vista and Clovis North, who both finished with 63 points and finished first and second, respectively.

Other finishers for the Troubadours included Allie Lourim (58th, 21:05), Jessica Danens (68th, 21:17) and Juliet Batturaro (80th, 21:41.

The Frosh/Soph team finished second behind Alana Reyna, who was 16th, while the JV team was 11th.
