Four Volleyball Players Participate in Optimist Game

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Four St. Francis players were selected for the Optimist All-Star Volleyball game and played for the South team in a three-set loss 26-24, 25-23, 25-23 on June 5 at Capital Christian High School.

The Troubadours were represented by outside hitter Anna Baytosh (Chico State), libero Chloe Hakim (UC Irvine), setter Ali Koumelis (Portland) and middle blocker Megan Sullivan (UCSB). The team was coached by Zara Budenbender of Bella Vista High School.

Hakim, who led St. Francis with a team-best 594 digs and was a Sac Bee All-Metro honorable mention selection, was named the South team Player of the Game.

Baytosh led the Troubadours with 357 kills and 3.2 kills per set, while recording 259 digs, the second-best total on the team, in 2013. Koumelis recorded 969 assists on the season with a 9.5 assist per set average. Both were Sac Bee All-Metro first-team selections.

Sullivan, who was a Sac Bee All-Metro honorable mention choice, ranked second on the team in kills with 231 while hitting a team-best .353.

The Troubadours reached the finals of both the CIF NorCal Championship and Sac-Joaquin Section before losing to Granite Bay. They went a perfect 10-0 in the Delta River League to win the title. Overall, St. Francis posted a 34-9 record.

Other players on the South team included Sara Hibbs (Bella Vista),  Iris Anderson (Christian Brothers), Regan Bradley (Christian Brothers), Jaymee-Lee Buida (Christian Brothers), Zoe Hunt-Murray (Davis), Alex Holt (Monterey Trail), Kelechi Ohiri (Monterey Trail) and Tia Clay (Will C. Wood).
