Lacrosse Falls to Cal’s Second-Half Surge

MATHER, Calif. – Cal High scored 15 second-half goals to break open a close game and post a 19-11 win over St. Francis Tuesday night at Mather Sports Complex.

St. Francis (1-2) led 6-4 at the break behind three first-half goals by senior Hayley Kusserow. But the Grizzles rallied in the second half, scoring three quick goals to take a 7-6 lead.

Junior Meg Anderson scored the first of her four goals in the second half to briefly tie the game at 7. But Cal responded during a man advantage and quickly built its lead.

Anderson finished with a career-best four goals, tying Kusserow for team-best in the match.

“I wanted to keep the energy up and go for the goals when I saw the opportunities,” said Anderson. “It felt really good. I did not expect four goals.”

Sarah Westover added two goals, both coming in the first half, while freshman Juliette Vielhauer also scored in the contest.

“We are going to practice really hard, focus and work on our draws so we can come out strong this weekend,” said Anderson

The Troubadours head to the Bay area for two games this weekend. They open against Redwood on Friday with varsity (4 p.m.) and junior varsity (5:30 p.m.) games.

Fans can follow all the action from the trip on the St. Francis social media accounting with the #TroubieTakeover.
