SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Colleen McClain scored a game-high five goals to lead St. Francis to a 21-1 victory over Casa Roble. It was the first of five consecutive home contests for the Troubadours

“Today we really worked on our attack and the offensive side of the game,” said McClain. “We tried to run some plays which we still need work on but we got a lot better during this game.”

McClain was one of six players with multiple goals in the contest.

“We did really well and worked together as a team,” said McClain. “Obviously it was not just me taking it to the goal. We needed to work on the offense and we stepped it up today.”

The Troubadours were able to score easily throughout the game, building a large advantage. Junior Hayley Kusserow had four goals in the contest, improving her team-best total to 24 for the season.

“We played good and settled it a lot on offense,” said Kusserow. “It was a good game. We had a lot of positive energy tonight and it is good to move forward with that.”

The second half was played with a running clock with the Troubies holding a double-digit lead. Junior goalie Maddie Merwin allowed just a single first half goal and shut down Casa Roble in the second half.

Sophomore Maggie Anderson and senior Jane Sadler each scored three times, while Emily Bush and Erika Palmer added two goals in the game. Junior Ryleigh Bone and Mia Bonini also scored for the Troubadours.

St. Francis hosts Redwood Friday night starting with the JV match at 4:30 p.m., while the varsity plays at 6 p.m.

In other action Tuesday, the SF junior varsity team posted a 10-8 victory over Christian Brothers.
