SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Meg Anderson and junior Hayley Kusserow each scored five times to pace St. Francis in a 21-0 shutout over Bella Vista Friday night.

“It was really good,” said Anderson following the game. “We did not expect to do so well especially since we were missing so many players due to different things.”

St. Francis played without a sub in the game and had a first-time goalie in action.

The Troubadours had an effective draw control and were able to post a strong offensive attack. Kusserow and Anderson combined for five early goals as the Troubies built a 7-0 lead and led 14-0 at the half.

“We have been working on our draw control in practice and we needed them to get back in the groove,” said Anderson.

In the second half, St. Francis continued to control on offense and prevent much of any offense for Bella Vista. Senior Jane Sadler, who was playing her first career game in goal, stopped the only shot of the game and her teammates continued to provide support.

“We played awesome,” said Erika Palmer. “We passed the ball around perfectly and are definitely working on our settled offense and double-teaming. I thought we excelled in those.”

Senior MacKenzie Campbell scored her first goal of the season, adding to her birthday celebration.

Freshman Sara Westover and junior Ryleigh Bone each added three goals. Sophomore Maggie Anderson scored twice for St. Francis and Palmer, Mia Bonini also scored in the contest.

“Tonight really helped to give us the momentum heading into Oak Ridge,” said Anderson.

St. Francis hosts Oak Ridge on Tuesday followed by a return trip to Oak Ridge on Friday.

“It helps us a lot to get us boosted and energized at practice to get the wins against Oak Ridge,” said Palmer.

The JV game starts at 5:30 p.m. with the varsity contest at 7:30 p.m. on each night.
