SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Sarah Westover scored in overtime to give St. Francis a 10-9 win over Christian Brothers.

“It is the most satisfying feeling in the world,” said Westover. “We worked so hard and there were a bunch of weird calls. The fact that we were able to capitalize and get the ball back and finish to the end was so satisfying.”

Westover scored four goals in the game, but the most important came in the three-minute sudden victory period. St. Francis forced a turnover and senior Maggie Anderson picked up a ground ball to start the game-winning transition.

“Maggie getting the ground ball was huge,” said Westover. “It all started with her. It was a great transition and it was all the team. We were all going really hard and I got the ball and scored. It was really good.”

St. Francis fell behind early after the teams exchanged goals to start the contest. Christian Brothers (10-3) led at the half 5-3 but SF rallied in the second half.

“Our captain Erica Palmer has a lot to do with that,” said Maggie Anderson. “She is a total energizer bunny. She gets in there and pumps us up. We owe a lot of that energy to her. When we decide we want to win the game, it is all that it takes. When we decide we want to play, we play well.”

Anderson scored three goals including the fifth to tie the score at 5 at the 14:59 mark of the second half. Senior Erika Palmer put the Troubies ahead 6-5 but the Falcons went ahead as Megan Walaitis, who tallied six goals in the game, scored two straight to give CB a 7-6 lead as the 12:38. Meg Anderson tied the game at 7 and Westover tied it again at 8 and 9 before the overtime. Overall, the game featured six ties.

“It is always difficult playing on grass instead of turf,” said Maggie Anderson. “It feels really good to have won and won as a team.”

St. Francis (6-8) hosts Casa Roble at 6:30 p.m. at Mather Sports Complex. Senior night festivities will start at 5:45.

“On Senior night, we are looking to have fun,” said Westover. “It is going to be a good game against Casa Roble and we are looking to make our seniors shine.”

The Troubadours will honor nine players before the game.

“I am so pumped for senior night,” said Maggie Anderson. “The thing I am most looking forward to is standing out there with my fellow seniors. I love them so much and it has been privilege to play with them. I am going to miss them a lot.”
