SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Anna Gregg scored with under a minute to play to propel St. Francis to a 1-0 victory over Folsom Tuesday afternoon.

“It was a great feeling,” said Gregg of her game winner. “My shots were a little wide most of the game. We had all those chances and that one came right to me and you have to finish them.”

The Troubadours recorded 26 shots in the game but it was the final one that counted. St. Francis improved to 15-2-5 and 4-1-2 in Delta River League action.

“It feels really good especially at home to get a win,” said goalie Catie Brown, who played the second half in goal for the Troubies.

Both teams had opportunities to score in the game but failed to find the net. Gregg, who had nine shots in the game, collected a ball in front of the net off a pass from Layne Price to secure the win. It was the league-leading 19th goal of the season for Gregg.

Brown and senior Mia Arostegui combined on the shutout for the Troubadours. Folsom had several chances in the second half but Brown made three saves and kept the ball out of the net to preserve the win and shutout.

“I definitely did not anticipate it with the way the first half went,” said Brown. “But I was prepared for anything. They came at us strong and we were against the wind. We had a couple of close calls but the defense was right there and we were able to pull it out.”

St Francis travels to Pleasant Grove on Thursday looking to avenge their only league loss of the season. The game is scheduled for 4 p.m. with the JV teams playing at 5:30 p.m.

“This was a very important win and it puts us in a good place to make playoffs,” said Gregg. “If we can just keep scoring goals, we can get there.”

Pleasant Grove was tied for Oak Ridge atop the Delta River League standings at 3-0-3 entering play on Tuesday.
