O’Brine Finishes Third at State Hammer Championships

MODESTO,Calif. – Senior thrower Kayla O’Brine finished third at the California State Hammer Throw Championships last weekend at Modesto Junior College.

O’Brine, who is from Elk Grove, had a best throw of 145-1 to finish third in the vent behind Stamatia Scarvelis of Dos Pueblos and Emelda Maim-Annan of Elk Grove.

More than 50 athletes competed at two venues in the state and the results were combined.

O’Brine finished 12th in the discus earlier this month at the CIF Track and Field Championships. The hammer is not recognized or sanctioned by the CIF.

O’Brine will throw at UCSB in the fall.
