SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Lizzy Corfee had nine kills to help St. Francis post a three-set 3-0 win over Monterey Trail Tuesday night.

“I think we all came together really well,” said Corfee. “Not many balls hit the floor and we managed to stay together. When they had a run, we were able to keep it together and still play strong.”

Corfee had nine kills in the contest with two digs.

“I think I played better today,” said Corfee.

Senior Kylie Green led the team with 14 kills and added eight digs. Senior Ashley Sutter recorded a team-best 13 digs, while senior Marissa Gollnick led the attack with 25 assists. Senior Anna Donald had five kills and four aces, while seniors Carey Fuchs and Candice Reynoso each added four kills.

Corfee and cousin Donald, whose father is Corfee’s mother’s older brother, had a big contingent of family at the game. The family showing included her Aunt and grandparents.

“It was good to have my family here motivating us,” said Corfee. “Anna and I definitely had fun with that.”

St. Francis travels to Grant on Thursday for JV and varsity games starting at 4:30 p.m. before hosting Pleasant Grove next Tuesday in a key Delta League matchup.

“I think we just need to stay focused when we play each game and realize what we are going to need to do when we go into PG,” said Corfee. “It is nice when we get some leads like tonight, we can practice running harder and different plays that we will need against PG. That is why these games are really helpful.”

St. Francis defeated the Mustangs 25-14, 25-15, 25-9.
