SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis closed out its home regular season schedule with a 2-1 victory over Sheldon in the Senior Game. The Troubadours honored Mia Arostegui, Terra Carden, Nina Madsen, Ashley Kyalwazi and Jenna Mark in pregame ceremonies.

Junior Rachel Schaefer gave St. Francis the early 1-0, scoring off a header on an assist by Emma Granner. Sheldon tied the game later in the half.

“We really wanted to win to help get a good placement for playoffs,” said Schaefer, who scored her fourth goal of the season. “It was a good start to the game.”

The game remained tied until Trinity Connaughton was taken down outside the box, earning a penalty shot for the Troubies. Senior Anna Gregg was selected for the attempt and did not disappoint, scoring the go ahead goal.

“I missed one during the preseason so it was a confidence booster to make the one today,” said Gregg, who has 22 goals on the season. “We have been coming off a couple of tough games. This helps us for playoffs a ton.”

Mia Arostegui had three saves in goal for the Troubadours.

St. Francis (16-3-5, 5-2-2 DRL) completes the regular season at first place Oak Ridge on Thursday.

“We have to keep doing what we have been doing, stay composed and try to get the ball into the back of the net,” said Schaefer.

The Troubadours have clinched a playoff spot. Playoff brackets will be announced Friday afternoon with first-round games scheduled for Tuesday, May 6.
