Soccer defeats Elk Grove 1-0

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Hailey Barrett scored in the 24th minute and St. Francis made it stand as Meredith Kaeser and her teammates posted a 1-0 shutout over Elk Grove in windy conditions.

“I had a breakaway and placed it in the corner,” said Barrett of her seventh goal of the season. “The wind always creates a challenge for us especially going against it. We go the goal with the wind so we just had to play defense in the second half.”

Junior Bridget Foy assisted on the goal by Barrett.

Junior Meredith Kaesar posted a shutout in goal, playing both halves and recording three saves.

“I think we did really good,” said senior Rachel Schaefer, who had three shots. “We were moving around, talking a lot. We just need to put it in the back of the net.”

Overall, St. Francis (13-1-2, 7-1-2) had 25 shots in the game. After playing four straight home games, the Troubadours play two on the road next week starting with Sheldon on Monday.

“We need to stay focused and have everyone back, keep the team together,” said Barrett.
