SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman Lindsey Porter scored her first two career two goals as St. Francis posted an 8-2 win over Grant on Monday.  Overall, seven players scored in the game for the Troubadours.

“It felt good that we worked as a team,” said Porter. “We played good St. Francis soccer and played composed and simple on the ball. It felt good to finally finish my chances for goals.”

Junior Aly Shebert scored her first goal of the season three minutes into the game. Porter then knocked in the first of her two goals to make it 2-0 and senior Hailey Barrett extended the lead to 3-0 in the 20th minute with her eighth goal of the season.

Grant got on the board to cut the lead to 3-1 before the Troubadours added three more goals before halftime. Freshman Jackie Koerwitz scored her first career goal in her first game, while freshman Janae DeFazio and senior Meredith Cook added scores.

Porter added her second goal in the second half (50:23) and junior Abby Padilla completed the scoring off a Koerwitz assist.

“We played good possession and kept the ball more than we usually do,” said Porter. “We all went together for it as a team and pressed the ball at the same time.”

DeFazio and Shebert each had two assists in the game.

“Winning with this score will build our confidence going into Pleasant Grove,” said Porter.

St. Francis (9-1-3, 3-1-3) starts the second half of league play on Wednesday at Pleasant grove, the first of three straight on the road.
