Soccer Wins Sixth Straight on Gregg Hat Trick

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Anna Gregg recorded a hat trick to lead St. Francis to a 4-0 victory over Pleasant Grove Wednesday night.

“We are playing as a team more than ever,” said Gregg. “It feels good to win.”

St. Francis (12-1-1, 6-1-1), which tied the Eagles in their first meeting to start league play last month, won their sixth consecutive overall and fifth straight via shutout, posting a combined score of 28-0 over that stretch.

“It is amazing,” said goalie Allie Carmickle, who had five saves while playing both halves. “Everyone’s spirits are high and are working hard. The intensity level is unbelievable. It could not be better.”

The Troubadours got on the board with a goal by junior Hailey Barrett five minutes into the game, the sixth of the season for Barrett.

Gregg scored the first of her three goals in the 40th minute to give the Troubies a 2-0 at halftime. She scored again on a penalty kick in the 64th minute and notched the hat trick with a blast left of the goal from outside the 18-yard box.

“The focus now has been starting off the second half of the season very strong,” said Interim Head Coach Maryclaire Robinson. “One of our focuses has been creating positive habits and we have now played together long enough where they are habits. We can now move forward with other areas that will make us better.”

Gregg has scored 20 goals on the season, recorded two hat tricks and eight multi-goal games.

“She is such a game changer and her shot is so hard,” said Robinson. “It is almost unfair. She is a goal scorer and she changes the game. But her work rate is what I really value as a coach. She delivers regularly and creates because of her work rate.”

The Eagles dropped to 3-5-1 and 2-5-1 in league play.

St. Francis, ranked No. 2 in the latest MaxPreps state poll, hosts No. 1 Davis on Monday. The St. Francis Booster Club will host their barbeque for all players, families and fans for both teams during the varsity and junior varsity games starting at 3:30 p.m.
