SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis hit three home runs as the Troubadours improved to 7-7-1 on the season with a 13-1 victory over McClatchy Tuesday afternoon at Schuster Field.

“The whole team is bonding now and getting closer together,” said Smith. “We are getting the hang of things and the hitting is contagious.”

St. Francis recorded 16 hits in the game as five players had multi-hit games. The Troubadours scored nine runs over the first two innings to take control of the game early. Mary Baccay had the first of two doubles in the game as part of a five-run first inning. Chloe Smith tripled to knock in two runs and Laure Washburn added an RBI single.

In the second, Mary Baccay opened the inning with a double and scored on a Washburn single. Smith then hit a two-run home run.

“It felt really good,” said Smith of her home run. “I have been struggling a bit offensively and I broke out a couple games ago. To hit that felt really nice.”

Senior Akeylah Moses followed with a solo home run, hitting the second of back-to-back homers for the second time in her career. She also did last season in the playoffs.

“Coach Sean (Smith) told me before I went to bat to make a couple of adjustments,” said Moses. “Chloe hit a home run and I said I can’t follow it like I did last year. But I did. It was like déjà vu.”

St. Francis added four runs in the fourth highlighted by the first career home run of freshman Gabriella Guerrera, a three run shot.

Washburn finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored. Smith was 2-for-2 with four RBI and Moses was 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.

“It boosted our team’s confidence,” said Moses of the win. “We need to win so we can be more confident in each other and get more wins.”

St. Francis has gone undefeated in five straight games with a 4-0-1 record that included an impressive performance in the Victory Tournament over the weekend. After a slow start to the season, the team is now on a roll.

“It helped a lot,” said Smith of playing four games last weekend. “With the rain outs, we did not have as much practice and real games.”

Jada Kanemasu and Caitlin Caldwell combined to hold McClatchy to one run on six hits.

The Troubadours host Grant at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
