Softball Drops Opener to Ponderosa

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Ponderosa scored eight times over the final two innings to comeback to defeat St. Francis in its season opener 10-4 Tuesday night.

Four players had two hits each in the contest. Senior Danika Bailey went 2-for-3 with a run scored, while sophomore Rhyann O’Mara went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Sophomore Kelsea Williams and junior Emily Ainsley each added two hits.

Sophomore Jada Kanemasu (0-1) took the loss, allowing nine runs (five earned) on 11 hits over 6.2 innings.

St. Francis (0-1) trailed after the Bruins posted two on the board in the second inning. The Troubadours cut into the lead with a single fun in the fourth on a sacrifice fly by junior Akeylah Moses that scored freshman Mary Baccay. The Troubies rallied to take the lead with a three-run fifth inning. O’Mara and Williams had run-scoring hits and a third run scored on a Bruin error.

But Ponderosa rallied for four in the sixth and added four in the seventh to seal victory.

St. Francis returns to the field on Saturday for a game at Del Oro at 11 a.m.
