Softball Loses at Pleasant Grove

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Pleasant Grove posted a 10-0 shutout victory over St. Francis Wednesday behind a two-hit complete game by Celina Matthias.

The Troubadours managed just two hits and committed four errors that led to six unearned runs in the contest. The Eagles scored four runs in the second, one in the third, three in the fifth and two in the sixth on 10 hits. Three players had two hits in the contest.

Mel Baccay and Rhyann O’Mara each had singles in the game for the Troubadours.

Amy Marks took the loss, allowing 10 runs (four earned) with five strikeouts and three walks in the game.

Pleasant Grove took the lead in the third aided by a pair of errors, scoring four runs in the inning. Marissa Maligad tripled to close the scoring, plating the fourth run. Victoria Camina homered in the fifth, scoring two more runs for the Eagles.

St. Francis returns to action Friday against Folsom in makeup game that was rained out on Friday. The Troubadours host the Albie Swingin’ Tournament Saturday featuring three games. St. Francis hosts Christian Brothers at 3 p.m.

Wednesday’s game was originally scheduled to be played at St. Francis but the home field was unplayable after the recent rain. The two schools will play again at St. Francis on April 29.

The St. Francis JV team defeated Pleasant Grove 5-2 Wednesday at St. Francis.
