Spector and Jackson Sisters Represent Well at First Day of Individuals

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Senior Avery Spector lost in the quarterfinals to a nationally-ranked player from Lodi and Kiya and Kyla Jackson advanced to the semifinals of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I individual singles and doubles championships Friday at Johnsen Ranch Racquet Club.

Spector, the Delta League Most Valuable Player, opened the tournament with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Regan Corley of Armijo. She then lost a tough three-set battle with Miriam Timkova of Lodi, a foreign exchange student from Slovakia where she is ranked No. 37 in the country. Spector won the first set 7-5 and the second was tied 5-5 before Timkova closed out the set to tie the match at 1. Timkova won the third set 6-1 to advance to the semifinals on Friday.

The Jackson sisters, the No. 2 seed in the doubles draw, advanced to Friday’s semifinals with two wins on Thursday. They opened with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Hannah Ketcherside and Julia Cardona of St. Mary’s in the round of 16 and won 6-1, 6-2 over Charlotte Brennan-Crowley and Marisa Mark of Rodriguez.

Singles and doubles semifinals and finals will be contested on Friday.

The St. Francis team will return to section playoffs on Monday, hosting Del Oro at 2 p.m. at Rio del Oro Racquet Club.
