St. Francis Cross Country Wins Bronco Invitational

FOLSOM, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team  edged Clovis Nprth to take the team title at the Bronco Invitational at the Willow Hills Reservoir course Saturday morning. It was sixth meet win this season for the Troubadours.

“Today was a great matchup,” said assistant coach Mason Myers. “Clovis North is one of the top ranked teams in the state of California. We are pleased to go head-to-head with them  and have our girls run some very good performances.”

The Troubadours, ranked No. 14 by DyeStatCAL, scored a two-point victory over No. 9 Clovis North 46-48. St. Francis placed three runners in the top five overall led by winner Lauren LaRocco, who crossed the line in 17:48, 25 seconds ahead of the next runner over the difficult, hilly course. LaRocco, who has run the second fastest time in the state this season, won her sixth race of the season in one of the fastest times in course history.

“We are pretty confident her 17:48 is one of the top times ever run out here,” said Myers.  “It delights us because we are still midway into the season and have a lot more training and racing to go. For her to do that in a solo performance is outstanding this time of the year.”

Senior Madison Rawson finished fourth overall in 18:42.

“We did well,’ said Rawson. “We have done better over the last couple of weeks. We came together as a team and got a little closer.”

Miranda Myers was the top junior in the field, finishing fifth overall in 19:04. Junior Camille Boudreaux was 14th in 19:53 and Chase Worthen was 26th overall in 20:30. Ariel Medina was just behind in 30th overall (20:45) and Mallory Shingle was 47th (21:44).

“We are seeing the top five closer as a group together and are very pleased with their running as a team,” said Myers. “We hope for wonderful things to come.”

The JV team finished second behind Del Oro behind Amanda Larivee in sixth place (23:04), while the Frosh/Soph team placed fourth behind Elk Grove, Davis Senior and Lincoln (s).

St. Francis will run again at Willow Hills Reservoir for the Delta River League Championships on Nov. 2. They return to action next week at the anticipated Mt. Sac Invitational that will feature many of the top teams from California.
