SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Kylie Green has given a verbal commitment to UC Irvine to play volleyball next fall. She is the second Troubadour to make a commitment this fall. The National Letter of Intent signing day is Nov. 12.

“Kylie is ready to explode as a player,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “She is hitting so much more consistently and confidently. She sees the block so much better and she is stronger and quicker. She is doing really well.”

Green will join a UC Irvine program next fall coached by former Olympian Paula Weishoff. The Anteaters were 14-16 last season and former Troubadour Chloe Hakim will be a freshman at the Irvine campus this fall.

“I am really shy at first and it takes me a while to warm up to people,” said Green. “Having Chloe there will be really nice.”

Green, who hails from Gold River, is part of a St. Francis program that has combined to win 72 games over the last two seasons. She saw action in 39 sets as a junior in her first season on the varsity unit, recording 52 kills on the season. She will be looked to fill a bigger role this fall.

“I want to be a really good leader and help the team get to the best place we can,” said Green of her goals this season. “We definitely lost a lot of seniors and we have a lot of new people. I can tell they are nervous and unsure of what the team is going to be like. I want to help them understand the varsity process.”

With her senior season ahead of her and college picked, Green is happy to have her recruitment behind her

“I am really excited,” said Green, who participated on the San Francisco Service Trip this summer. “It was always a dream of mine to play Division I volleyball. Now that it has happened it is very surreal. I know all the girls and I really like the coaches. I am looking forward to playing there.”

Green, who will study either business or criminology, said she loves the location of the school relative to Sacramento because it is far away but still close enough to get back when she wants to.
