SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis varsity swimming team posted a 96-90 victory over Rio Americano Thursday at Jesuit High School.

“It is always good local competition between good friends,” said Head Coach Richard Levin of the meet against Rio Americano. “You want to swim well against them. A lot of them are training partners and part of the same club teams. To swim well here is a good indicator for the rest of our season.”

Rio Americano defeated St. Francis by over 100 points and edged the Troubadours in the standings at the section meet last season.

“It means we are on the right track,” said Levin. “I do not know if it is predictor of how we will do in sections but last year it was St. Francis and Rio fighting for third place.”

St. Francis got event wins in two of the three relays. Isabella Smith, Caroline Urkov, Katie McIntee and Elizabeth Fugit won the 200 free relay in 1:45.61 to edge Rio by 17 hundredths of a second. McIntee and Smith joined Annclaire Macart and Chloe Mitchell to win the 400 free relay in 3:41.71, touching the wall just ahead of Rio in 3:42.08.

Macart also won the 200 free in 1:55.96, while Smith captured the 500 free in 26.12.

The Frosh/Soph unit defeated Rio Americano 130-34.

St. Francis won all 11 events. Taylor Koewler (200 free, 100 fly) and Fiona Dodson (100 free, 100 back) won multiple events and were both part of relay wins.
