Track and Field Posts Qualifers, School Record at League Trials

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Junior Nicole Spring broke her own school record, resetting the best jump in school history for the second time this season in the opening day of the Delta League Championships. St. Francis scored 24 points in four finals and advanced seven qualifiers in the sprints and mid-distance trials.

Spring jumped a school-best 36 feet, 11.75 inches to improve her record by more than three inches. She originally set the mark with a leap of 36 feet, 8.25 inches in dual meet on April 8. She finished second overall in the event. She will also compete in the long jump finals next Friday.

Senior Sam Ruggles won the Delta League shot put title, earning all-league honors with a throw of 37 feed, 6.5 inches. She won the Delta River League titles each of the last two seasons. Senior Maggie Oys had a personal-best of 24 feet, two inches.

Sophomore Elizabeth Hennessy, Ariane Arndt and Sydney Hunter each advanced in two events. Hennessy was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles (16.93) and third in the 300m hurdles (46.63). Arndt was the top qualifier in the 400 meters (57.93), one of three Troubadours to advance, while crossing second in the 800 meters (2:23.98). Hunter was fifth in the 200m (26.23) and third in the 400m (57.93), while Lilly Enes was fifth overall (59.70).

The top eight finishers advanced to the Delta League finals on Friday, May 15 at Monterey Trail High School. The top six score in the league meet and top four advance to the section trials. The field events start at 2 p.m. with the first running event at 6 p.m.

The top Frosh/Soph qualifers included Alyssa Shebert (100m, 200m), Katherine Gaston (200m), Caitlin Hipol (400m), Yahsmeene Duffey and Steffi Keene in the 100m and 300m hurdles.
