Track and Field Wins Two Events, Sets School Records at Meet of Champions

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Ariane Arndt won the 800 meters and Sam Ruggles captured the shot put as part of successful day for the St. Francis track and field team in preparation for the championship season that starts with the Delta League trials on Friday.

Arndt, who has the sixth-fastest time in the 800 meters in the nation this season, won the event in 2:13.72. It was her second major meet win this season after winning the Arcadia Invite and finishing second at the Stanford Invitational. She was won the event five times this season.

Ruggles recorded a season-best 39-10 in the shot put on her final throw to win the shot put. She added a sixth-place finish in the discus in 110-8.

Peyton Bilo continued her strong senior season with a school record in the 1600 meters, clocking 4:57.07 to edge out Lauren LaRocco’s mark set last season. Bilo also set a school mark in the mile at the Stanford Invitational. She also finished sixth in the 3200 with a time of 11:03.90.

Sophomore Elizabeth Hennessy clocked a personal-best 46.26 to finish fourth in the 300m hurdles. It was the fastest time by a sophomore in school history and fourth best individual performance overall. She set a PR for the second time this season, breaking 47-second mark for the second consecutive meet.

Senior Sydney Hunter, the third-best performer in the 400 meters in school history, also had a personal-best 56.36 to finish third in the 400 meters.

Hunter and Arndt joined Ava Nkadi and Lilly Enes to finish third in the 4×400-meter relay.

Other performances includes Ava Bean in the high jump (7th, 4-10), Nicole Spring in the long jump (8th, 34-4) and Nadki (5th, 5:14.40) and Miranda Myers (11th, 5:21.00) in the 1600 meters.
