SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Carly Simpson had 12 digs and scored 14 points on her serve as St. Francis posted a 3-0 win over Grant to open Delta League play on Monday.

“We executed really well, stayed focused and respected the other team,” said Simpson. “It was the big goal today to show respect by playing 100 percent and not letting our play go down.”

St. Francis, coming off a third-place finish in the Chris Craft Invite over the weekend, won in straight sets 25-9, 25-6, 25-10.

“They did really well,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “They were practicing many different things that we are going to need in matches later on. We were working on very specific hits. I was pleased with the execution. It was nice to see everyone play and have a good time out there.”

Junior Mady Enos led the team with 15 points off her serve and tied for a team-best 11 assists. Junior Madelyn Schildmeyer added 11 assists in the win.

“It felt really great to contribute,” said sophomore Carlie Deterding. “It was a fun win. We tried to keep our energy up and do some things to make us better for Pleasant Grove on Wednesday.”

Junior Aiyu Aimufua led the team with 12 kills as the team hit 49 percent in the contest.

“Pleasant Grove is a very good, well-coached team,” said Wright. “We got to see them play a little this weekend so we know what we need to do. It is going to be a battle. Hopefully, we will be ready. We have been tested over the last two weeks.”

St. Francis and Pleasant Grove meet on Wednesday. The freshman and JV games started at 5 p.m.
