Volleyball’s LoGiudice to Sign with Dominican Penguins

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Alexa LoGiudice has verbally committed to play volleyball next year at Dominican University of California in San Rafael for Penguins coach Gayle Stammer.

“I am super excited to play for the university and have the ability to have my family come down to watch me play volleyball,” said LoGiudice. “They were the first school I started talking to. I love Coach Stammer and we had a connection right away when I first met her.”

LoGiudice, a defensive specialist and libero, was a two-year letter winner for the Troubadours. She was a member of the Nor Cal and Sac-Joaquin Section runner-up squad in 2013 that recorded a 34-9 record and won the Delta River League title. She saw action in 101 sets and had 215 digs on the season (5.2 per match). She also helped the Troubies to a CIF state runner-up finish in 2012 and Nor Cal, section and league titles as a junior. She recorded 14 kills and 62 digs in 29 sets played.

LoGiudice is the eighth member of the 2013 volleyball team to commit to play in college. Head Coach Alynn Wright’s senior class included Anna Baytosh (Chico State), Karson Bisharat (Central Arizona), Lea Felton (Hawaii Pacific), Chloe Hakim (UC Irvine), Ali Koumelis (Portland), Noa Nightingale (UCSB) and Megan Sullivan (UCSB).

“I have known these girls since I started playing volleyball at Holy Spirit,” said LoGiudice. “I had no idea that we would all be playing together at St. Francis. We stuck together and I think we are leaving a legacy. I would not have wanted to do it with anyone else.”

She plans to study international business and hopes to continue to take Italian.

“They are willing to do anything to make sure your time on campus is amazing,” said LoGiudice. “It is such an oasis and so rich with culture.”

The Penguins are a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) competing at the Division II level in the Pac West Conference. LoGiudice will join St. Francis teammate Lea Felton, who signed with Hawaii-Pacific, in the Pac West.

Logiudice is the 28th Troubadour to have made a commitment or to have signed during the previous National Letter of Intent signing periods to continue their athletic careers next year at the collegiate level. The third and final NLI Signing date is April 16. St. Francis will hold a celebration to recognize all the spring collegiate signees on April 30.
