Sam Mejia is a local artist and Makerspace technician at MADE Studio in Oak Park. With a background in marine biology, she has always been drawn to both scientific exploration and creative expression. After graduating from Saint Francis High School in 2008, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology and Environmental Studies. Her passion for field research led her to a six-month study abroad program in Argentina, where she backpacked across the country, studying the biodiversity of penguins, sea lions, and birds. During her senior year, Sam presented her research on cephalopod feeding structures at an international conference in Florida.

At MADE Studio, Sam teaches 3D printing, direct-to-film printing, sticker making, woodworking, laser cutting, CNC routing, jewelry making, and soldering. Her love for hands-on creation extends into her personal artwork, which includes pottery, needle tufting, printmaking, and digital fabrication. She sells her pieces in Sacramento storefronts and is in the process of launching an Etsy store.

Sam is passionate about blending technology and artistry, constantly exploring new ways to bring her creative visions to life. Sam also started a local chapter for Makers Making Change where they 3d print accessibility tools for people with disabilities.
