Basketball Opens Season with 72-50 Win over Ponderosa

FOLSOM, Calif. – Senior Lauren Craig scored 20 points and senior Tia Hay added 19 to lead St. Francis to a 72-50 victory over Ponderosa Wednesday in the opening game of the Folsom-Vista Tip-Off. The Bruins entered the game ranked No. 6 in the Sacramento Bee preseason rankings.

“It felt great and gave us a lot of confidence,” said Craig. “It is going to help us moving forward because we know we can come together as a team and pull out the win.”

Basketball Teams Tip-Off in Three Area Tournaments

SACRAMENTO, Calif.  – All three St. Francis basketball teams will take part in various tournaments across the city this week starting with the varsity team in the Folsom-Vista Tipoff Wednesday afternoon.

The Troubadours, who were 66-53 winners over West Campus Monday night, take on Ponderosa at 4 p.m. at Folsom High School. They play co-host Vista del Lago on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Folsom.

The Junior Varsity team will open its season at 3:45 p.m. Thursday against Rocklin in River Cirty in the Battle on the Bridge tournament.

Basketball Team to Play Davis at Sleep Train Arena

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis varsity basketball team will play Davis Friday, January 8 at Sleep Train Arena at 6 p.m. The game will be part of a doubleheader with the Jesuit- Davis boys game tipping off at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets for the game can be purchased online for $30 and includes a ticket to the February 29 Sacramento Kings game against the Oklahoma Thunder.

Basketball Alumna Limcaco Graduates from Menlo College

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Jolise Limcaco ’11 recently graduated from Menlo College with a degree in Accounting and already has an offer to work at Frank Rimerman + Co. LLP after she graduates due to her exceptional job as an intern. She was a member of the Student Athletes Leadership Committee (SALC) the past two years and worked for the athletic department in her free time.

Basketball’s Rogers Excited About Optimist Opportunity

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior guard Susie Rogers is excited about her opportunity to represent her school in the Optimist All-Star game Saturday night at Center High School. Game time is 4 p.m.

“It is cool,” said Rogers, who participated in a pair of practices this week with her teammates. “Everyone is going to be really good so it will be fun. Coach Vic (Pitton) is coaching so that is cool. It is going to be fun.”

Basketball Head Coach Vic Pitton to Coach Optimist Game, Rogers

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis Head Basketball Coach Vic Pitton has been selected to coach the South team at the Optimist All-Star game on Saturday, April 11 at Center High School in Antelope. The 38th annual Optimist game features many of the area’s top graduating seniors, including St. Francis senior Susie Rogers.

“It certainly is an honor to have the opportunity to coach these fantastic graduating seniors in their final performance,” said Pitton. “I am very blessed to have that opportunity.”

Four Basketball Players Earn Postseason Honors

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Susie Rogers and junior Lauren Craig were both named to the Delta League All-League first-team as selected by the coaches, while juniors Angie Ortiz and Kyra Huffman both earned all-league second-team honors.

Rogers, who was the named the team’s the outstanding defensive player, averaged 7.6 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.2 assists, tying for the league-lead. She also ranked third in the Delta League with 3.0 steals per game.

St. Francis Falls to St. Mary’s

STOCKTON, Calif. – St. Mary’s of Stockton posted a 98-55 victory over St. Francis Thursday night in the second round of the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.

“We fought hard the whole game,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “They have more athleticism and great shooters. We wish them the best of luck.”

St. Mary’s, the No. 1 seed and No.4-ranked team in the nation according to ESPN, broke open a close game over the last 10 minutes of the first half. The Troubadours kept the game close early, tying the game three times with the last coming at 15 all six minutes into the game.

Troubadours Roll into Second Round

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Susie Rogers had a game-high 20 points to lead St. Francis to a Sac-Joaquin Section playoff win 84-50 over Bella Vista Tuesday night.

“Susie played a very good game, Janae knocked down her shots and Kyra finished strong reading those passing lanes,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “We got good help from the bench. It was an all-around team effort.”

Basketball Garners No. 8 Seed, Will Host Bella Vista

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis basketball team was given a No. 8 seed in the Sac-Joaquin Section Girls Basketball Bracket announced Wednesday night. The Troubadours (19-7, 9-5 Delta) will host No. 9 seed Bella Vista on Tuesday, Feb. 24 at St. Francis at 7 p.m.

“Anytime you get in the playoffs it is great and when you get a home game in the playoffs it is even better,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “We are glad to have that first home game.”

Basketball Closes Regular Season with Fifth Straight Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis closed out the regular season with a 64-40 win over Grant to improve to 19-7 overall on the season. It was the fifth consecutive win for the Troubadours, who finished in third overall in the Delta League with a 9-5 mark.

St. Francis earned a berth in the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs. Brackets will be announced live online at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.

Vacaville’s Isabel Soloaga Closing St. Francis Basketball Career

Vacaville’s Isabel Soloaga was recognized at St. Francis Senior Night on Feb. 13 with her sister Camille, parents Kathy and Dean, and grandparents.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Isabel Soloaga has driven 35 miles each way every day for four years to attend St. Francis Catholic High School in Sacramento. She plays for the Troubadour basketball program and will play her final regular season game Tuesday.

“I want to finish my career on a high note,” said Soloaga. “We need to get the win to get our position for the playoffs.”

Soloaga, who has played in all 25 games this season, is playing her second season on the varsity team. She comes off the bench for Head Coach Vic Pitton, providing an outside threat for the team.

JV Basketball Wins Big over Monterey Trail

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Reina Deol scored 10 points and Logan Kelly added 11 as all 10 players scored in a 51-29 win over Monterey Trail.

St. Francis (17-7) took control of the game early, holding the Mustangs to two points in the first quarter and were never threatened in the contest.

Kelly scored seven points in the first half as the Troubadours built a 23-12 advantage. Deol scored eight of her 10 points in the third quarter as St. Francis extended the lead to 39-25.
