Freshman Courses

St. Francis utilizes an 8 block schedule, but a recommended schedule for an incoming freshman includes 7 classes and 1 free block.

Freshman classes are organized as follows:

Required classes assigned to all freshman students:

English 9 
Early World History & Geography
Christology & Introduction to Scripture

Required classes students are placed in based upon test scores:

Based on HSPT scores and admission file review, freshman are placed in one of the following SCIENCE classes:

Integrated Science
Biology
Honors Biology 

Freshmen are placed in one of the following MATH classes:

Integrated Math 1
Geometry*
Integrated Math 2*
Integrated Math 3*
Honors Integrated Math 3*
Precalculus*
Honors Pre-Calculus*

*Placement into these courses requires taking a challenge test 

Required class that allows for student option:

Freshmen select between the following Modern and Classical Languages:

French 1 (2 semester class)
Italian 1 (2 semester class) 
Spanish 1 (2 semester class) 
Latin 1  (2 semester class)

Students may take an optional challenge test to place into a second-year or higher language program. 

Required classes needed before graduation that can be taken in Freshman Year: PE/Sport, Fine and Performing Arts, Health

P.E. choices:

Dance Styles  (1 semester class) 
Introduction to Show Choir (1 semester class)
Full Force Training  (1 semester class) 
Yoga (1 semester class) 

Audition Classes that meet the PE requirement include Dance Company (2 semesters), Apprentice Dance Company (2 semesters), Intermediate Dance (1 semester), Hula Club (1 semester), and Show Choir (1 semester). 

Participation in any level of a St. Francis High School Athletic team fulfills the PE requirement in the semester the sport is played.

Fine and Performing Arts Choices:

Drawing, Painting , Figure Sculpting, and Digital Photography
Theatre Arts
Concert Choir
Concert Band
Theater Tech and Design (after school class)
Digital Film & Animation

Audition classes that meet the Fine Arts requirement include Chamber Singers, Chamber Orchestra

Health

Required for graduation, may be taken any time during 9th-12th grades or in summer school. (1 semester)

Elective Classes: 

Freshmen may select (if room allows) from among the following options:  

Technology Education

Computer Graphics (1 semester)
Computer Programming with C-STEM (2 semesters)
Computer Science Discoveries (2 semesters)

Leadership

Ministry Leadership (1 semester; open to all students)
Student Leadership (2 semesters; required for freshman officers)

Challenge Tests

St. Francis offers incoming freshmen optional challenge tests in Math and Foreign and Classical Languages. Freshmen wishing to take Integrated Math 1 or a first-year Language class do NOT need to take a challenge test. 

MATH

If you wish to take Integrated Math 1 as a freshman, no math testing is necessary. Nearly half of the freshman class will take Integrated Math 1 in their freshman year.

If you are currently taking Algebra and would like to take Geometry as a freshman, you will need to take the Geometry challenge test. The Geometry challenge test is sixty minutes long and calculators are not permitted. Topics assessed on the Challenge Test for placement into Geometry

If you are currently taking Integrated Math 1, you will need to take the Integrated Math 2 challenge test. The Integrated Math 2 challenge test is sixty minutes long and calculators are not permitted. Topics assessed on the Challenge Test for placement into Integrated Math 2

If you are currently taking Geometry or Integrated Math 2 and would like to take Integrated Math 3 as a freshman, you will need to take the Integrated Math 3 challenge test. The Integrated Math 3 challenge test is ninety minutes long and calculators are permitted. Topics assessed on the Challenge Test for Placement into Integrated Math 3

If you are currently taking Integrated Math 3 or Algebra 2 and would like to take Honors Pre-Calculus as a freshman, you will need to take the Pre-Calculus challenge test. The Pre-Calculus challenge test is ninety minutes long and calculators are permitted. Topics assessed on the Challenge Test for Placement into Pre-Calculus

SFHS Uniform Style Guide

SAVE THE DATE!  You’ll get 10% off your entire order and free standard shipping from June 5-12, 2022. No need to order uniforms before then; freshmen will be emailed all the details.

St. Francis High School uniforms are ordered online through School Uniforms by Tommy Hilfiger. Click here for an ordering instructions pdf that has a convenient QR code you can scan to go directly to the SFHS uniform site, or follow these steps:

1. Go to www.globalschoolwear.com
2.  Where it says Find Your School, enter the code for St. Francis High School:  STFR03. You will be prompted to choose grade (all), gender (girls) and program (daily uniform).
3.  The website will automatically apply the St. Francis logo to uniform items.
4.  If you have questions about sizing, please reference the SFHS Uniform Sizing Chart 2021.
5.  Please allow 10-12 business days for your order to be delivered.

Freshman Class Council

CLASS OF 2026 STUDENT COUNCIL PROCESS

Please review the Freshman Council application instructions here and complete the online application via this Google form. You must use your St. Francis High School email address for all communications; you received your SFHS email address in March 2022. You will submit a Google Slides presentation at the bottom of your application. Presentations must include all of the following information:

  • Three pictures of you – 1 of these photos must be a clear photo of your face, from the shoulders up. 
  • Why you are running for Student Class Office. What do you hope to gain from this experience? What do you hope to contribute?
  • What makes you a qualified candidate?
  • What’s important for us to know about you?

CLASS OF 2024 STUDENT COUNCIL TIMELINE

June 3, 2022 – All freshman council applications, including Google Slide Presentations, are due by 4:00 pm. Late submissions will not be accepted.

June 22 or June 29, 2022 1:30 – 4:30 pm: Interviews for freshman class council candidates. You will be contacted to schedule your interview day upon approval of your application. Freshman Student Council selection will be based on interviews and group team building activities held with a panel of staff and students representing the Associated Student Body at SFHS.

Freshman Overnight Retreat & Family Mass:  August 12, 2022
Thanksgiving break:  November 23-25, 2022
Christmas break:  December 19, 2022-January 3, 2023  
Easter break:  April 4-14, 2023
