Cross Country Second at Bronco Invite in League Tuneup

FOLSOM, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team finished second at the Bronco Invitational Saturday with 50 team points as seniors Miranda Myers and Peyton Bilo each posted top-six performances.

“Overall the girls ran very well,” said assistant coach Rich Willet. “We had a good grouping and ran really tight. They ran hard and had good finishes.”

St. Francis, ranked eighth in the latest state rankings by PrepCalTrack.com, placed their top five all within the top 20. Sixth-ranked Clovis North won the meet with 37 points.

Cross Country’s Mallory Shingle: A Top Performer

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Most high school kids head to the beach for the summer or Lake Tahoe. But cross country senior Mallory Shingle is not like most of her peers in high school.

Shingle, who hails from Sacramento, is coming off a summer that included time on the Stanford campus working on a neuroimaging study investigating number processing in young adults.

Cross Country Sweeps The Other Meet Titles

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Juniors Ariane Arndt and Chase Worthen led the St. Francis cross country team to a win at The Other Meet held Saturday morning at Granite Regional Park. The Troubadours swept all three races at the meet as freshman Sydney Vandegrift and senior Ariel Medina won the Frosh/Soph and junior varsity races.

“It shows we are pretty strong all the way through,” said Arndt of the team win. “We have a lot of good runners. Even without our top two runners, we can still compete.”

Myers Wins First Delta League Race to Lead St. Francis

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Miranda Myers clocked 18:28 in hot temperatures Wednesday afternoon to win the first Delta League meet of the season, leading the Troubadours to a victory over Davis.

“It feels good,” said Myers. “It was hard to go out there by myself. I did not really know what that was like, not having any competition. It was good to lead and take it step by step.”

Cross Country Trip Canceled Due to Chicago Airport Event

The St. Francis cross country team sits in the Sacramento Airport Friday before flight was canceled.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team’s flight to Chicago was canceled Friday morning forcing the team to call off its weekend trip. The Troubadours were traveling to Chicago, Ill., to compete in the Palatine Invitational this weekend.

The trip included 17 student-athletes and three coaches.

St. Francis will return to running on Oct. 8 at the Delta League meet at Granite Regional Park.

Cross Country Travels to Chicago for Palatine Invitational
Trip Part of Tradition with Sister School Assumption

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team will travel to Chicago, Ill., to compete in the Palatine Invitational this weekend. The meet serves a gathering between St. Francis and sister-school Assumption High School from Louisville, Ky.

“It will be a great experience for the girls,” said Head Coach John DuCray. “We are going with no expectations and plan to make it a fun trip. It will be something they will never forget.”

Cross Country Finishes Second at Nike Invitational

CONCORD, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team finished second at the Carondelet Nike Invitational Saturday morning at Newhall Park.

Senior Miranda Myers led the team for the third straight meet, finishing sixth overall in 18:25 over the three-mile course. Classmate Peyton Bilo was 10th, finishing in the Top 10 for the third time this year with a time of 18:43. Freshman Ava Nkadi was the third Troubadour across in the line in 20th overall (19:31) in her varsity debut.

Cross Country Led by Myers and Bilo at Ed Sias Invite

MARTINEZ, Calif.  – Seniors Miranda Myers and Peyton Bilo each posted top-five finishes to help St. Francis to a fourth-place finish at the Ed Sias Invitational Saturday.

Myers was the top Troubadour finisher in 12:17 over the two-mile course. She finished behind only Megan McCandless of Granda (11:37) and Brooke Starn of Monte Vista (12:04). Bilo was five seconds behind Myers in fifth overall (12:22).

Alumna LaRocco Runs Strong Collegiate Opener

EUGENE, Ore. – Troubadour alumna Lauren LaRocco had a successful collegiate debut on Saturday. LaRocco finished 12th overall in 20:44 as the first freshmen in the race to cross the line, helping the Portland team to a second place finish at the Dellinger Invite held on Pre’s Trail in Eugene.

Portland accumulated 46 points during the six kilometer race which put them ahead of No. 2 Oregon (68), Oregon State (120), and Portland State (131). Sixth-ranked Michigan State won the meet.

Cross Country Opens with Strong Performances at Oakmont Invite

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Seniors Miranda Myers and Peyton Bilo led the varsity team with top-three finishes at the season-opening Oakmont Invitational Saturday at Maidu Park.

The Troubadours finished third as a team behind Oak Ridge and Woodcreek. St. Francis also had strong showings in the Frosh/Soph and JV races. Freshman Ava Nkadi won the first race of the day in her first high school performance, crossing the line in 15:17. Junior Juliet Batturaro won the JV race in 17:24. All three races were at the 4K distance to open the season.

Troubadours to Compete in New Delta League

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis will play in the Delta League beginning this fall with many familiar faces and several new ones.

“The Delta League has a lot of history and it is great it is back in existence,” said Delta League Commissioner Ron Nocetti.

The Troubadours move into the newly formed Delta League along with Pleasant Grove and Sheldon from the Delta River League. The league is a realignment of members of both the Delta River and Delta Valley Leagues.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country program is using XCStats.com this year to keep our team statistics and to provide useful tools for goal setting, team communications and training. NOTE: All athletes are required to create an account on XCStats!

Parents do not register separately – they are registered by their athlete in this process.

Track and Field Represented at Golden West Invite

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Two student-athletes representing St. Francis competed at the Golden West Invitational Saturday at Hornet Stadium.

Senior Kayla O’Brine competed in her final high school meet participating in both the hammer and discus at the event. She finished second in the hammer with a best throw of 140-11 and was fifth in the discus contested two hours later with a throw of 121-1.
