Cross Country’s Worthen Earns All-America Honors

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Junior Chase Worthen earned All-America honors at the USATF Junior Olympic Cross Country National Championships held in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on Dec. 12-13.

Worthen placed 21st with a time of 18:49 over the 5K course. The top 25 racers in each division and top three team earned the title of All-American.

Worthen was competing at Nationals for the eighth time in her career. She will return as one of the senior leaders for St. Francis cross country in 2015.


Myers Leads Trio at Footlocker West Regional Championships

WALNUT, Calif. – Senior Miranda Myers finished 17th overall in a field of 143 at the Footlocker Cross Country West Regional Championships Saturday morning with a time of 19:05. Teammate Peyton Bilo was 73rd overall (20:16), while junior Chase Worthen was 121st. (21:11).

The trio helped St. Francis placed third overall in the Division I race at the CIF State Championships on Nov. 29.

Myers, who has signed with Northern Arizona, finished one spot ahead of Mikayla Malaspina of Caldwell, Idaho, who will also run at NAU next fall.


Cross Country Places Third at State Meet

FRESNO, Calif. – The theme for the weekend was Wizard of Oz and the Troubadours clicked their heels all the way down the yellow dirt road at Woodpark Park to find a top three trophy at the end of the road Saturday.

With the third-place finish, St. Francis recorded a top-five finish for the third time in the last four seasons. The Troubadours finished among the Top 10 for the fourth straight season and became the third Nor Cal team to earn a podium finish at the Division I state meet (St. Francis, 2012; Davis, 2013) and second in school history.


Myers and Bilo Passing on the Torch in Final Meet

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – For four years of workouts, hills, mile repeats, hugs, laughter and tears, the duo of Peyton Bilo and Miranda Myers have been the heart and soul of a St. Francis cross country team that has been among the best in the state. They will toe the line Saturday for the final time together in a quest for a memorable ending to their four-year varsity cross country careers.

“We are going to try to run personal bests and have fun out there,” said Bilo. “We are shooting for Top 10 overall. We will see what happens.”


Cross Country Qualifies for CIF State Meet

FOLSOM, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team finished third at the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships and earned a berth to the CIF State Championships for the fourth consecutive year.

“Today was a really exciting meet for the varsity girls,” said Assistant Coach Mason Myers. “It was one of our big goals to qualify from sections to state. The girls went after it and had incredible individual races and had a 52 second gap between our first and fifth places to seal a great effort.”


Cross Country and Water Polo Section Finals Live Online

The Sac-Joaquin Section and the NFHS Network will broadcast the section cross country championships Saturday morning starting at 9 a.m. and each of the water polo finals including the St. Francis-Davis matchup at 3:30 p.m.

Fans must register on the NFHS page and there is a daily fee to see the section playoff game.

Regular season St. Francis broadcasts are free.

Nine St. Francis Seniors Make College Commitments

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Nine St. Francis High School seniors signed a National Letter-of-Intent or made a commitment to play collegiate sports next year at schools across the country Wednesday. They were recognized on campus as part of the school’s formal fall signing day recognition.

Distance Standout Myers Commits to Northern Arizona

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior cross country and distance standout Miranda Myers has committed to run at Northern Arizona next fall.

“I am really excited,” said Myers, who will sign officially on Wednesday. “I just got back from an official visit over the weekend. I am really pumped. The team was really nice and the weather is perfect. They have a really good education program. It is going to be a great atmosphere and environment to train in for my running.”


St. Francis to Hold College Commitment/NLI Celebration

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis will be holding a press-conference event on Wednesday, November 12 at 9 a.m., in the CLC on campus to celebrate our students who have committed to participate in collegiate athletics for the ”early” signing date of the National Letter of Intent program.

Cross Country Advances to Section Meet

ANGELS CAMP, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section meet easily with a fourth-place finish at the Sub-Sections Saturday.

Senior Peyton Bilo was the top finisher for the team in 20:28 to cross 18th, while classmate Miranda Myers was 28th in 20:40. Freshmen Sydney Vandegrift and Ava Nkadi crossed the line simultaneously to place 32nd. Junior Ariane Arndt was four seconds back.


Cross Country Places Three in Top 10; Finishes Second

FOLSOM, Calif. – Senior Miranda Myers led three Troubadours among the Top 10 as the St. Francis cross country team finished second at the Delta League Meet Saturday at Willow Hills Reservoir.

“I got out pretty fast in front some of the Davis girls,” said Myers. “That was the key for my race to get out fast. I held my pace and got passed once on the back loop but I think I ran the hills really well and kept pushing myself.”


Cross Country Second at Bronco Invite in League Tuneup

FOLSOM, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team finished second at the Bronco Invitational Saturday with 50 team points as seniors Miranda Myers and Peyton Bilo each posted top-six performances.

“Overall the girls ran very well,” said assistant coach Rich Willet. “We had a good grouping and ran really tight. They ran hard and had good finishes.”

St. Francis, ranked eighth in the latest state rankings by, placed their top five all within the top 20. Sixth-ranked Clovis North won the meet with 37 points.


Cross Country’s Mallory Shingle: A Top Performer

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Most high school kids head to the beach for the summer or Lake Tahoe. But cross country senior Mallory Shingle is not like most of her peers in high school.

Shingle, who hails from Sacramento, is coming off a summer that included time on the Stanford campus working on a neuroimaging study investigating number processing in young adults.


Cross Country Sweeps The Other Meet Titles

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Juniors Ariane Arndt and Chase Worthen led the St. Francis cross country team to a win at The Other Meet held Saturday morning at Granite Regional Park. The Troubadours swept all three races at the meet as freshman Sydney Vandegrift and senior Ariel Medina won the Frosh/Soph and junior varsity races.

“It shows we are pretty strong all the way through,” said Arndt of the team win. “We have a lot of good runners. Even without our top two runners, we can still compete.”


Myers Wins First Delta League Race to Lead St. Francis

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Miranda Myers clocked 18:28 in hot temperatures Wednesday afternoon to win the first Delta League meet of the season, leading the Troubadours to a victory over Davis.

“It feels good,” said Myers. “It was hard to go out there by myself. I did not really know what that was like, not having any competition. It was good to lead and take it step by step.”
