Cross Country Wins Fourth Team Meet Title; Takes Capital Cross Challenge

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team won for the fourth time this season by out-scoring Vista del Lago 59-76 Saturday at the Capital Cross Challenge at the Haggin Oaks Golf Complex.

“We were trying to stay together as a pack for the first two miles,” said freshman Tatiana Cornejo. “For the last mile we were just going to go for it.”


Cross Country Seventh at Elite Woodbridge Sweepstakes Race

CORONA, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team placed seventh overall in the elite Bob Day Sweepstakes at the Silverlakes Sports Complex at the Woodbridge Cross Country Classic Saturday night under the lights.

Junior Izzy Fauria led the Troubadours with a 33rd-place finish in 17:06. Freshman Cate Joaquin was right behind her in 17:07.

Athletics Department Celebrates Spring Signing Day

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Nine St. Francis Catholic High School seniors representing seven different sports made commitments or signed National Letters-of-Intent to play sports in college next fall at a ceremony at the school today.

“It was what I have been waiting for,” said senior Logan Kelly from Rio Linda, who signed with Lewis & Clark College. “It was exciting and I was so glad to get to sign with all the girls from my class. It was a really neat ceremony and I am so grateful for everyone who was a part of it.”


Cradeur to Join Creighton Cross Country Program Next Fall

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis Senior Erica Cradeur will run at Creighton next fall.

“It means a lot to me because I really just started my running career,” said Cradeur. “I have taken it more seriously over the past couple of years and my times have reflected that. I think with running in college I am going to keep improving.”


2017 Cross Country Highlights

  • The St. Francis cross country team posted the fifth-best GPA in the Sac-Joaquin Section with a 3.61 cumulative average. The team ranked behind only Oak Ridge (3.84), Oakmont (3.75), Gregori (3.70) and Lodi (3.66).
  • The St. Francis cross country team finished sixth overall in the girls Division II race, recording their sixth consecutive Top 10 state championship finish. The Troubadours finished with 225 points with three runners among the top 35 scoring finishers, placing behind Claremont (69), Saugus (100), Granada (102), Capistrano (123) and Serrano (166).

Thirty Troubadours Honored with SportStars All-City Honors

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis had 30 Troubadours represented on the 2016-17 SportStars River Cats All-City teams announced before Sunday’s game with against the Nashville Sounds. Overall, SportStars Magazine celebrated 500 athletes at the eighth annual event.

Alumnae Post Top Performances at NCAA West Regional

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis alumnae Lauren LaRocco ‘14 and Peyton Bilo ‘15 had successful returns to Sacramento at the NCAA West Regional on Friday morning.

“It was really fun because there were people lining the course everywhere,” said Portland junior Lauren LaRocco. “I was really surprised by the turnout and I felt like I had a lot of support running in my hometown.”


Cross Country Places First at Subsections

FROGTOWN, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team won the Sac-Joaquin Subsection Division 2 meet to advance to the sections next week, scoring 67 points to defeat Vacaville (84).

Freshman Isabella Fauria and junior Sydney Vandegrift paced the team, finishing in a virtual tie in eighth overall in 19:22. Sophomore Sophie DeBenedetti was the third Troubadour across the line (19:52) with freshman Haley Silva just four second back. Freshman classmate Emma Hollenbach was 21st overall. Alana Reyna (35th, 20:51) and Allie Lourim (46th, 21:12) closed out the varsity top seven.


Cross Country Wins Bronco Invitational

FOLSOM, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team won the Bronco Invitational with 55 points behind the 1-2 finish by standouts freshman Izzy Fauria and junior Sydney Vandegrift.

St. Francis placed their top six among the top 23 to edge Buchanan (74 points) and Clovis North (109 points) on the course site for the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships. Buchanan finished sixth in Clovis last week ahead of the St. Francis in 10th.


Cross Country Finishes 10th at Clovis Invitational

FRESNO, Calif. – Freshman Izzy Fauria finished fourth overall as the St. Francis cross country team placed 10th at the Clovis Invitational on Saturday.

Fauria clocked 17:52.7 over the 5k course at Woodward Park, site of the 2016 CIF State Championships. Sydney Vandegrift was 19th overall in 18:11 despite battling an illness during the week. Sophomore Sophie DeBenedetti placed third on the team in 19:10 (77th overall).

Great Oak won the team title with 81 followed by Davis Senior (114) and Arcadia (143). St. Francis was 10th overall with 286 points.


Cross Country Wins Delta League Meet

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Sydney Vandegrift led a strong varsity performance that saw five runners finish in the top eight and seven place among the top 15 as St. Francis won the Delta League meet with 24 team points.

“I knew this was a flat course and I wanted to go out and test my limits,” said Vandegrift. “Our team is really rocking it right now and I am really proud of all of our freshmen. They are working really hard and I am so glad that they came to St. Francis.”


Vote for Cross Country’s Isabella Fauria for High School Performance of the Week

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman cross country runner Isabella Fauria is a nominee for the DyeStat Performance of the Week. Fauria won the De La Salle/Carondelet Nike Invitational Cross Country 3-mile race on Saturday, crossing the line in 17:38.

St. Francis finished second overall to Davis 58-119 on the strength of six runners in the top 55. Just behind Fauria was junior Sydney Vandegrift, who placed sixth in 18:06. Sophomore Sophie DeBenedetti was 24th (18:58.1), while Haley Silva was 35th (19:20.4) . Allie Lourim and Emma Hollenbach placed 53rd and 55th, respectively.

St. Francis Athletics Partners with SportsLeader

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis High School and the Troubadour Athletic Department will partner with SportsLeader over the next four years to implement their Catholic virtue-based formation program for coaches.

“In offering athletics programs at St. Francis we seek to use sport as a context for physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth,” said Athletic Director Mark McGreevy. “Our partnership with Sports Leader represents a continuation of that great Troubie tradition in a very intentional way.”
