Volleyball Season Ends in NorCal Semifinals

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team dropped its CIF State NorCal Semifinal match 3-1 at Valley Christian 27-29, 25-15 25-22 25-17 Tuesday night.

“I was proud of the girls” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “They fought and battled. We just had more unforced errors tonight.”

Freshman Alexa Edwards had 22 kills and Claire Schutz added 14. Junior Madelyn Schildmeyer recorded 44 assists to lead the Troubadours. Junior Aubrey Kenny notched 19 digs and sophomore Camille Enes had 12 in the match.

Volleyball Advances to NorCal Semifinals

ROCKLIN, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team upset No. 3 seed Whitney in the CIF State Championship Division 2 NorCal bracket 3-1 Saturday night. The Troubadours advance to face Valley Christian out of San Jose in the semifinals Tuesday night.

“I am on a high right now,” said freshman Alexa Edwards. “It feels so amazing that we could do it. We are two games away from state.”

St. Francis faced Whitney for the second time in the postseason and third time overall this season. The team mantra leading up the match was two L’s equal a W (picture it with your hands).

Volleyball Advances with Win in NorCals

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team advanced to the next round of NorCals with a 25-20, 25-12, 25-22 win over Windsor in the CIF NorCal Regional Championships on Wednesday.

“It was really satisfying,” said Edwards. “It was a good momentum change. Our cover was really good and our blocking helped us against #16 and shut her down. It helped our defense adjust.”

Edwards led the attack with a game-high 16 kills with seven digs.

Volleyball No. 6 Seed in NorCal Bracket

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team is the No. 6 seed in the Division II bracket for the CIF State Girls Volleyball Championships. The Troubadours will host No. 11 Windsor at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at St. Francis.

“We have a lot of volleyball left,” said Alynn Wright to her team after the section semifinals. “The Whitney coaches complemented the team on the outstanding defense we played. We can still play better defense.”

Volleyball Upsets Del Oro, Advances to Semis and Earns NorCal Berth

LOOMIS, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team lost in the section quarterfinals a year ago, ending their season uncharacteristically outside of the NorCals. Not this year. The fifth-seeded Troubadours upset the No. 4 seed Del Oro in three sets 25-19, 25-12, 25-12 on the road Thursday. The win puts SF into the Sac-Joaquin Section semifinals and earns the team a berth in the NorCals a week later.

“It feels really good and everyone did their part,” said senior captain Claire Barbe. “We came here to win and we did that. Everyone is really determined to do the best this year.”

Frosh Volleyball Finishes 25-1, Perfect in League

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman Volleyball Head Coach Lawrence Whang does not judge his teams on wins and losses. The first season in the program is about setting the tone for the future in skill-work, team bonding and practice. But if he did, the young Troubadours had a successful season.

“Overall the team did great,” said Whang. “Personally I don’t characterize (success) by wins and losses. It is how we do on the court. If we do well, we produce wins.”

Volleyball Sends Seniors Out with Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team posted a 3-0 win over Franklin to send their five seniors out on a winning note in the final regular season home match. The Troubadours posted a 25-2, 25-10, 25-15 win over the Wildcats.

“It was a really exciting game and we were all ready and prepared to win tonight,” said senior Emily Davis. “We wanted to play hard and show our senior pride for our last home game. It was an exciting way for it end.”

Senior Claire Barbe led the team with 15 kills, while freshman Alexa Edwards had 13 kills and 10 digs/

Barbe Commits to Play Volleyball at Gonzaga

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Claire Barbe has dreamed of playing volleyball at Gonzaga since she was a little girl. Next month, her dream will come true when she signs with the Zags.

“It has been my dream since I started playing sports,” said Barbe, who is one of two captains on the team. “I never imagined myself getting to this point. I am amazed I got there.”

Barbe grew up visiting her grandparents’ home in Spokane, Wash., and visiting the Zags campus bookstore.

Volleyball Posts 3-0 Win over Davis

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Coming off the big win on Monday over Pleasant Grove, the Troubadour volleyball team wanted to keep the momentum going on Wednesday against Davis. They accomplished their goal with a 3-0 win to improve to 8-2 in Delta League play.

“After Monday’s game we had a lot of energy and we came out with a good win,” said Kenny. “Coming in (tonight) we knew how good Davis was so we did not get over confident and kept a positive attitude. We came into the game strong knowing we have to give it our all and fight the whole time.”

Volleyball Opens Delta League Play with Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Carly Simpson had 12 digs and scored 14 points on her serve as St. Francis posted a 3-0 win over Grant to open Delta League play on Monday.

“We executed really well, stayed focused and respected the other team,” said Simpson. “It was the big goal today to show respect by playing 100 percent and not letting our play go down.”

St. Francis, coming off a third-place finish in the Chris Craft Invite over the weekend, won in straight sets 25-9, 25-6, 25-10.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Volleyball finished third at the Chris Craft Invitational on Saturday. The Troubadours had victories over Bella Vista, Vista del Lago and Marin Catholic. SF lost to Presentation in their opener and in the semifinals.

Volleyball Match on Access Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The El Camino match was broadcast by Access Sacramento for the Home Town Sports Game-of-the-Week. The taped telecast may be seen on Friday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. on Comcast Cable Channel 17, Consolidated Communications Channel 17 and AT&T U-Verse Channel 14. The match will be replayed Saturday, Sept. 10 at 11 a.m. and Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.

Volleyball Defeats El Camino in 4 Sets

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team closed out El Camino in four sets in the final league tune-up Thursday night. The Troubadours won 25-22, 25-15, 30-32 and 25-16 to post their second consecutive win of the week and improve to 7-4 overall.

“It was our game and we knew we needed to pick it up,” said freshman Alexa Edwards, who was named the Player of the Game by the Access Sacramento broadcast crew. “We really focused on the little things like our passing and hitting. That is what led us to the win.”

Volleyball Finishes 11th at High Sierra

RENO, Nev. – The St. Francis volleyball team finished 11th overall at the High Sierra Invitational over the weekend, posting a 5-2 overall record in advancing to the Silver Bracket semifinals.

The Troubadours were perfect on Friday, recording a 3-0 pool play record with wins over Faith Lutheran (2-1), Enterprise (2-0) and Spanish Springs (2-0). SF opened with a 2-1 loss to Nevada Union in a tight three-set battle with saw the teams split the first two sets before Nevada Union won 17-15 in the third.

Volleyball Drops Holy Court Matchup in Five Sets

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team fell in five sets to rival Christian Brothers in the annual Holy Court matchup in front of a sold out crowd. The Falcons rallied from a two-set deficit to win in five sets 22-25, 20-25, 25-19, 25-20, 16-14.

“It was a great match,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “Christian Brothers played relentless defense. They out-played us defensively and defense is what wins. At times we were tentative with our swings but all in all there were moments of great play and moments of nerves.”
