Holy Court Highlights Big Week for Volleyball

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball program hosts the annual Holy Court matchup Wednesday as part of a week that features matches against three of the Sacramento area’s top teams. In addition to Sacramento Bee No. 1 Christian Brothers, the Troubadours travel to No. 6 Oak Ridge Tuesday and host defending state champion Granite Bay on Thursday.

Volleyball Falls in Semifinals of High Sierra Invitational

RENO, Nev. – The St. Francis volleyball team lost in the semifinals of the High Sierra Invitational Saturday, falling in straight sets to Sonora 25-21, 21-9. It was their fifth match of the day and eighth overall in two days.

The Troubadours, who are ranked No. 3 in the Sacramento Bee preseason poll, went undefeated throughout the first seven games of tournament, dropping just two sets during that span. St. Francis opened perfect in Pool play on Friday, posting wins over Reno (25-14, 25-23), Woodcreek (26-24, 25-16) and Elk Grove (22-25, 25-17, 15-12).

Holy Court Ticket Information for Boosters and Students

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Holy Court tickets for students will be available to St. Francis students starting Wednesday, August 27 online. All tickets are $6 each plus $1 service charge and are print-at-home. Tickets must be shown at the door. Ticket purchases require registration on the Ticket Guys site.

St. Francis Volleyball Senior Kylie Green Commits to UC Irvine

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Kylie Green has given a verbal commitment to UC Irvine to play volleyball next fall. She is the second Troubadour to make a commitment this fall. The National Letter of Intent signing day is Nov. 12.

“Kylie is ready to explode as a player,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “She is hitting so much more consistently and confidently. She sees the block so much better and she is stronger and quicker. She is doing really well.”

Volleyball’s Anna Donald Commits to UC Davis

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Anna Donald considers herself a late bloomer on the volleyball court. After recently committing to play at UC Davis in 2015, she is blossoming with energy and excitement entering her senior season at St. Francis.

Troubadours to Compete in New Delta League

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis will play in the Delta League beginning this fall with many familiar faces and several new ones.

“The Delta League has a lot of history and it is great it is back in existence,” said Delta League Commissioner Ron Nocetti.

The Troubadours move into the newly formed Delta League along with Pleasant Grove and Sheldon from the Delta River League. The league is a realignment of members of both the Delta River and Delta Valley Leagues.

Four Volleyball Players Participate in Optimist Game

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Four St. Francis players were selected for the Optimist All-Star Volleyball game and played for the South team in a three-set loss 26-24, 25-23, 25-23 on June 5 at Capital Christian High School.

The Troubadours were represented by outside hitter Anna Baytosh (Chico State), libero Chloe Hakim (UC Irvine), setter Ali Koumelis (Portland) and middle blocker Megan Sullivan (UCSB). The team was coached by Zara Budenbender of Bella Vista High School.

2013 Volleyball Highlights

  • St. Francis advanced to both the CIF State Volleyball Nor Cal and Sac-Joaquin Section Finals before losing to eventual state champion Granite Bay in each match. They were the No. 2 seed in both brackets.
  • The Troubadours posted a 34-9 overall record under Head Coach Alynn Wright, who celebrated her 25th season directing the St. Francis program.

Former Troubadour Dana Knudsen Living Dream Overseas

LONDON, England – Sitting behind a desk was not for former St. Francis volleyball player Dana Knudsen. Now she is living abroad and has realized her dream of playing volleyball professionally while seeing the world in the process.

“I have always dreamed of coming to play in Europe,” said Knudsen from London where she is working in the offseason. “I absolutely love traveling and it is a huge thing for me.  At this point, it is not as much about the volleyball as the experiences I am getting.”

Gregg Named River Cats Girls Soccer Player of the Year
17 Troubadours Named to All-City Teams

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis junior soccer player Anna Gregg was named the River Cats Girls Soccer Player of the Year at the High School Awards Ceremony before Sunday’s game against the Tacoma Rainers.

“It means so much and feels so great,” said Gregg of the Player of the Year honor. “I set a goal to help to the section championship and that was accomplished. I could not be happier.”

Gregg and her St. Francis teammates captured the Sac-Joaquin Section title on Saturday on her goal to defeat Oak Ridge 1-0.

17 Troubadours Named to River Cats All-City Teams

SACRAMENTO, – Calif.  – Seventeen St. Francis Troubadours have been named to the 2013-14 River Cats All-City  teams and will be recognized on Sunday at the High School Sports Awards Ceremony before the River Cats take on the Tacoma Rainiers at 1:05 p.m. at Raley Field.

The St. Francis All-City fall sports selections include senior golfer Emily Laskin, volleyball seniors Ali Koumelis and Anna Baytosh and cross country runners Lauren LaRocco, Madison Rawson and Miranda Myers.

Former Troubadour Taryn Wright to Lead Junior Varsity Volleyball

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Former Troubadour standout Taryn Wright will coach the St. Francis junior varsity volleyball team and serve as a varsity assistant next fall, Athletic Director Mark McGreevy announced.

“I am really excited,” said Taryn. “It is something I have dreamt about for a long time. It is a great school and atmosphere to be part of again. I am excited to be back.”

Eight St. Francis Seniors Make Commitments Bringing Total to 32

The Troubadour commitments include Allison Autrey (Diving, UC Davis), Brinnley Barthels (Water Polo, Pacific), Ryanne Brust (Lacrosse, Fort Lewis),  Alexa LoGiudice (Volleyball, Dominican), Ileana MacDonald (Golf, Chico State) and Alexis Viramontes (Softball, CSU Dominguez Hills).

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Eight St. Francis High School seniors have signed a National Letter-of Intent or made commitments to play collegiate sports next fall for the NCAA signing period that began today. Overall, thirty-two Troubadour student-athletes have now made commitments to play collegiately next year.

Volleyball’s LoGiudice to Sign with Dominican Penguins

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Alexa LoGiudice has verbally committed to play volleyball next year at Dominican University of California in San Rafael for Penguins coach Gayle Stammer.

“I am super excited to play for the university and have the ability to have my family come down to watch me play volleyball,” said LoGiudice. “They were the first school I started talking to. I love Coach Stammer and we had a connection right away when I first met her.”
