First Athletics Hall of Fame Class to be Inducted in November
The 2018 class will include the 1993 CIF State Championship basketball team, golf coach Diane Aguer, five standout Troubadours and contributor Dotty Brandenburger.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis Catholic High School is proud to announce its inaugural Athletics Hall of Fame Class which will be inducted this fall, President Theresa Rodgers announced. The ceremony and dinner is scheduled for Saturday, November 17, 2018 at 6 p.m. in the St. Francis Gymnasium.

“On behalf of the entire St. Francis community, we are very excited about the establishment of the new St. Francis Athletics Hall of Fame and the induction of our first class this Fall,” said Rodgers.

Golfer Olivia Alcoran Selected to Play in 2018 PURE Insurance Championship

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis rising senior Olivia Alcoran has been selected to participate in the 2018 PURE Insurance Championship Impacting The First Tee tournament at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach from Sept. 25 – Sept. 30, 2018.

St. Francis Golf Coach Bert Jones Named Top 100 Instructor

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – On the eve of Father’s Day, St. Francis golf coach Bert Jones remembers a piece of advice his father once told him “that you should always leave the game a little bit better than you found it”.

He lives daily by those words and they are a major reason why has been selected one of the Top 100 Instructors for 2019-20 by the World Teachers Golf Federation. The list will be published in the upcoming June 2018 issue of Teaching Pro Magazine.

Golfer Olivia Alcoran Chosen for First Tee Leadership Academy

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Rising St. Francis senior Olivia Alcoran was selected by The First Tee of Greater Sacramento (TFTGS) to represent the chapter at the 2018 The First Tee Northern California Leadership Academy. The event’s activities will be held at locations in the Monterey, CA and Pebble Beach area from June 17-20, 2018.

The event is comprised of 60 young people from The First Tee and Youth on Course Northern California network who are committed to The First Tee’s Nine Core Values.

2017 Golf Highlights

St. Francis Head Coach Bert Jones was named the Delta League Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season.

The St. Francis golf team placed fourth-place finish at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters tournament after advancing from the SJS Division 1 North Tournament with a fourth-place finish.

The team qualified for the postseason by winning the Delta League title for the second consecutive season, posting an undefeated dual and center match record.

Golfer Lauren Allen to Sign with Missouri S&T

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior golfer Lauren Allen will sign with Missouri University of Science and Technology to play golf for the Miners next fall. She will participate in a ceremony at St. Francis on Wednesday.

“I am very excited knowing I get to continue to play the sport I love while getting a degree I know I’ll love,” said Allen. “Making a career out of connections with others that play the sport is a dream come true for me.”

Golf Finishes Fourth at Masters, Fletcher Records Hole-in-One

STOCKTON, Calif. – The St. Francis golf team finished fourth overall at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters Tournament with a 417 team score, missing a top-three qualification for the CIF NorCals by three strokes.

“That is golf. It has its ups and downs,” said Head Coach Bert Jones. “They played OK and we failed to advance by three strokes. It goes to show every shot does matter.”

Golf Advances to Masters Behind Sweeney’s Second-Place Finish

RANCHO MURIETA, Calif. – Junior Patricia Sweeney carded a two-over par 74 to pace the St. Francis golf team and help the Troubadours advance to the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters.

“I played with the No. 1 player (Sienna Lyford) and that helped keep my game because I am a very competitive person,” said Sweeney. “I was trying to beat her. I played really well.”

Golf Clinches Delta League Title with Center Win

Team Title Decided by Tiebreaker

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Patricia Sweeney was the top finisher for the Troubadours in a tie for second overall as St. Francis tied for the team title with Pleasant Grove, eventually winning with the tiebreaker.

Sweeney shot a one-under par 71 to tie with three players in second. Lexi Martin of Pleasant Grove was the individual winner with a six-under par 66.

Golf Wins Seventh Straight Dual Match

Golf Sweeps Season Dual Schedule

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Sophomore Nashla Aguero shot a three-over par 36 (par 33) at Emerald Lakes Golf Course as St. Francis defeated Franklin 195-250 Thursday afternoon.

Aguero finished second on the team with her 36. Junior Patricia Sweeney was the medalist for the fourth consecutive match with a two-over par 35. Lauren Allen signed for a 39 and Chase Saca carded a 41. Olivia Alcoran and Ceci Fletcher each had rounds of 44.

Hole-in-One Highlights Center Match Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Chase Saca had an ace on the 17th hole at Bartley Cavanaugh Golf Course on Monday as part of four-over par round of 75 as St. Francis won its second Delta League Center match.

“It was my first hole-in-one ever,” said Saca. “I was shocked at first and did not know it went in.”

Saca hit a wedge on the 17th hole island green surrounded by water, hitting the pin on the fly and the ball disappeared in the hole. It was her first career hole, a golfing achievement many never accomplish in a lifetime on the links.

Golf Defeats Sheldon

ELK GROVE, Calif – Junior Patricia Sweeney paced the Troubadours with a three-over par 39 to help St. Francis defeat Sheldon on Wednesday at Wildhawk Golf Course. Three players were tied for second at four-over par 40 including seniors Lauren Allen and Chase Saca along with sophomore Nashla Aguero. Junior Olivia Alcoran posted a 41 with classmate Ceci Fletcher carding a 43.

Sweeney Leads Golf to Grant Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Patricia Sweeney led the golf team to a win over Grant on Wednesday with a two-under par round of 34. It is her best round in a high school match.

St, Francis posted a 194 team score behind Sweeney’s two-under 34. Sophomore Nashla Aguero recorded a two-over par 38, while Olivia Alcoran carded a 39.

Senior Chase Saca posted a 41 and classmate Lauren Allen had a 42. Senior Adrienne Graybill signed for a 50.

St. Francis is back in action at Sheldon on Oct. 4.

Golf Shoots Season-Best 191 to Defeat Davis

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Lauren Allen and junior Patricia Sweeney tied for medalist honors with one-over par rounds of 37 to pace the St. Francis golf team to a win over Davis. The Troubadours posted a five-player score of 191, a season-best for the second consecutive dual match, over Davis, who posted a 214.

Four Troubadours posted round under 40 including a two-over par 38 by senior Chase Saca and a three-over par 39 by Ceci Fletcher, a career-best. Junior Olivia Alcoran carded a four-over 40, while sophomore Nashla Aguero recorded a 41.

Golf Wins Dual with Pleasant Grove

RANCHO MURIETA, Calif. – Senior Chase Saca was one of three golfers to break 40 for nine holes as St. Francis defeated Pleasant Grove 203-212 at Rancho Murieta Country Club on Wednesday. Saca tied teammate Olivia Alcoran for second overall with three-over par rounds of 39. Junior Patricia Sweeney was the individual medalist with a two-over par 38. The Troubadours also counted a 43 by Lauren Allen and a 44 Nashla Aguero for the 203 team score, edging the Eagles by 212.

Golfer Selected for Second First Tee Event

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Rising junior Olivia Alcoran has been selected by The First Tee for another Golf and Leadership event this year.  She is one of 96 junior golfers selected nationwide by The First Tee to participate in the 2017 The First Tee Life Skills & Leadership Academy that will take place in East Lansing, MI from July 26 – August 1, 2017.

Thirty Troubadours Honored with SportStars All-City Honors

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis had 30 Troubadours represented on the 2016-17 SportStars River Cats All-City teams announced before Sunday’s game with against the Nashville Sounds. Overall, SportStars Magazine celebrated 500 athletes at the eighth annual event.

Golfer Alcoran Selected for First Tee Event in Atlanta

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Olivia Alcoran has been selected one of 24 girls nationwide by The First Tee to participate in the 2017 John Deere Drive Your Future Academy in Atlanta, GA on June 19-22.

She’ll have a chance to win a $5,000 scholarship plus the opportunity to be a VIP guest and pro-am participant at the John Deere Classic in July 2017. The event will take place at East Lake GC, the site of the TOUR Championship and final event of the PGA Tour FedEx Cup series.
