College Guidance for Juniors

Second semester of junior year is the official beginning of the college process.

  • Registration/administration of PSAT/NMSQT
  • College counseling workshops  – “Just For Juniors”
  • Individual academic/college counseling
  • Strong Interest Inventory (career assessment) available on-line for Juniors
  • In-class presentations to students and parents about courses and college information
  • Interpretation of PSAT results

Just for Juniors: The Guidance Department will present a series of Community Lunch presentations designed to provide St.Francis High School Juniors and their parents with college readiness information. The presentations will be held in the Guidance Center on the following dates, Thursdays, Schedule 3. Students are encouraged to bring their lunch and parents are also welcome to attend.

  • Feb 16 – Choosing a Major
  • March 1 – NCAA for Athletes
  • March 15 – Scholarships
  • March 22 – College Admissions Timeline
  • April 19 – Writing the College Essay/Personal Statement

ACT and SAT Testing:  Juniors are advised to take the ACT with Writing, SAT Reasoning, and (for those students who will apply to specific majors at University of California campuses or selective private colleges that require them) two SAT Subject Tests in the spring of their junior year. Students may register online for the ACT at www.actstudent.org and for the SAT at www.collegeboard.com. Students are encouraged to use their full legal name (what appears on their social security card) when signing up for tests, as this is the name they will use on college applications and when applying for financial aid.

College Counseling Appointment: Block-long appointments with counselors will begin on February 28th for all Juniors.  Please see your assigned college counselor to make an appointment and invite your parent/s to attend.
