Spector Reaches Finals in Delta League Singles

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Senior Avery Spector reached the Delta League Singles final for the second consecutive season and earned a berth in the Sac-Joaquin Section individual bracket.

Spector won three matches on the day and will face Jacquie Tan of Franklin on Wednesday in the final. She advanced to the final with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Lisa Cummings of Monterey Trail in the first round, a 6-2, 6-0 win over teammate Macy Wood in the second and a 6-1, 7-6 (5) victory over Kayla Nguyen of Franklin the semifinals.

Tennis Receives First Round Bye in Section Playoffs

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – After tying for the Delta League Championship and winning the tiebreaker with Franklin, the St. Francis tennis team earned the league’s top seed and bye for the first round.

St. Francis (14-1) will open play with a home match on Tuesday, Nov. 3 against the winner of the Nov. 2 match between Atwater, the No. 3 seed out of the Central California Conference, and the No. 2 seed from the Monticello Empire League.

Tennis Ties for Delta League Title with Win over Monterey Trail

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team closed the regular season with a 9-0 win over Monterey Trail and finished tied for Franklin for the Delta League title. It is the 27th league title in school history and first for the program since 2012.

St. Franics lost just five games in sweeping the six singles matches and dropped just six games in three doubles wins.

The Troubadours improved to 11-1 on the season in league play.

Tennis Sweeps Pleasant Grove, Wins Sixth Straight

ELK GROVE, Calif. – St. Francis won its sixth consecutive match to improve to 10-1 in league play and 13-1 overall with a 9-0 sweep of Pleasant Grove on Thursday.

The Troubadours posted six straight-set sweeps in singles with wins by Avery Spector, Kyla Jackson, Kiya Jackson, Marisa Fat, Myra Anwar and Sabrina Voeller.

Tennis Avenges League Loss to Franklin

ELK GROVE, Calif. – The St. Francis doubles teams swept three matches to break open a close contest and give the Troubadours a 6-3 win over Franklin. The win avenged the only loss on the season to Franklin (5-4) on Sept. 21 and moved St. Francis into a tie for first place.

Freshman Myra Anwar and junior Macy Wood were straight set winners at No. 1 doubles, while sophomores Sabrina Voeller and Cameron Parra combined for a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2. Junior Megan Kahn and senior Eden Elliott pulled out a three-set win to complete the sweep.

Spectors Leading Tennis Team to Memorable Season

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Avery Spector is leading the St. Francis tennis team to a special season behind her strong play at the top singles position. The Troubadours improved to 11-1 on the season after a 9-0 win over Sheldon Monday.

“It has been really good this year,” said Avery. “The spirit is great and everyone is pushing from No. 1 to 18.”

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team improved to 10-1 with a 9-0 win over Elk Grove on Wednesday. The Troubadours lost just a single game in sweeping six singles matches.

Avery Spector, Kyla Jackson, Kiya Jackson, Marisa Fat, Abby Benvenuti and Sabrina Voeller all posted singles win. Myra Anwar and Macy Wood combined for a straight set win at No. 1 doubles. Carmen Orozionez and Cece Crowley were winners at No. 2 and Julia Kucic and Sarah Morris paired for a win at No. 3.

Tennis Completes Season Sweep over Davis

DAVIS, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team swept all six singles matches and won two of three doubles matches to post an 8-1 victory over Davis Monday. The Troubadours improved to 9-1 on the season and 6-1 in league play.

Senior Avery Spector led off the match with a win at No. 1 singles as St. Francis won five of the six matches in straight sets. Other winners included Kyla Jackson, Kiya Jackson, Marisa Fat, Myra Anwar and Annie Gianulias.

Transfer Macy Wood made her Troubie debut, partnering with Abbie Benvenuti at No. 1 doubles.

Tennis Completes First Half of League Slate with 9-0 Win

ELK GROVE, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team completed the first half of the Delta League schedule with a 9-0 win over Monterey Trail, improving to 5-1 in league play and 8-1 on the season.

The Troubadours got singles wins from Sabrina Voeller and Cameron Parra at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively. Senior Avery Spector and sophomores Kiya Jackson, Kyla Jackson and Marisa Fat were also winners in straight sets.

Tennis Falls to Franklin 5-4

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Franklin closed out a four-an-half hour match over St. Francis with straight set win at No. 3 doubles to take the first match between two of the top teams in the Delta League.

“Our team fought really hard today,” said Head Coach Kristi Spector. “We played through the heat. It was a great match and good information for when we play them again.”

Tennis Pulls Out Tough Match Against Davis

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Four matches were decided by tiebreakers as the St. Francis tennis team pulled out a 7-2 victory over Davis Thursday in a key Delta League match at Rio del Oro Racquet Club.

“I am really proud of the girls,” said Head Coach Kristi Spector.

St. Francis (7-0, 5-0) remained undefeated on the season to setup an important home match Monday against Franklin at Rio. The St. Francis Booster Club will host its annual Tennis Booster Que with free hamburgers and hot dogs for all players, coaches and fans from both schools.

Tennis Sweeps Sheldon 9-0

ELK GROVE, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team posted a 9-0 victory over Sheldon Wednesday afternoon to remain undefeated at 6-0 and 4-0 in Delta League play.

Sophomore Marisa Fat won 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets at No. 2 singles and Annie Gianulias posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles. Senior Avery Spector won at No. 1, while junior Abby Benvenuti won at No. 4. Other singles winners included freshman Myra Anwar at No. 5 and junior Megan Kahn at No. 6.

Tennis Opens League with Win over Pleasant Grove

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Avery Spector posted a straight set win at No. 1 singles as St. Francis cruised to an 8-1 win in the Delta League opener against Pleasant Grove at Rio del Oro Racquet Club.

St. Francis swept all six singles matches in straight sets. Sophomores Kyla and Kiya Jackson claimed wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Sophomore Marisa Fat was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at No. 4 and Annie Gianulias and Abby Benvenuti completed the sweep at No. 5 and 6 singles.

Tennis Wins B.O.S.S. Tournament to Open Season

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team won the Best of Sacramento Showcase Saturday with a 9-0 win over McClatchy, completing a perfect opening weekend. The Troubadours advanced to the finals with a 9-0 win over Bella Vista Saturday morning and opened the tournament with a 6-3 win over Granite Bay.

“We went in trying to play the best of our abilities and the best that we can,” said Head Coach Kristi Spector. “Everyone stepped up. The scores did not indicate how tough the matches were. They were on the court for a long time.”

Tennis Team Opens Play at B.O.S.S. Tournament

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team opens the 2015 season Friday at the Best of Sacramento Showcase Tennis Tournament. The Troubadours open up against Granite Bay at 3:30 p.m. on Friday at Feist Park.

Matches continue on Saturday with the winner’s bracket at Rocklin High School at 10:30 a.m. and the loser’s bracket at Whitney High School.

St. Francis went 2-1 and finished fifth in the Best of Sacramento Showcase last season. The Troubadours defeated McClatchy 7-2 and Roseville 8-1 after opening the tournament with a 5-4 loss to Del Oro Friday.

Tennis Sisters to Play at USTA National Championship

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Sophomores Kiya and Kyla Jackson were part of the Laguna Creek Racquet Club’s Coed 18 & Under Intermediate team that captured the Northern California championship title at this year’s USTA Northern California Junior Team Tennis Summer Coed Section Championships on August 1-2 in Elk Grove.

“I think it was pretty cool because we had home court advantage,” said Kiya. “When you were playing, everyone was watching us in center court. Our doubles match was the deciding match.”

Troubie Trio Help Gonzaga at NCAA Rowing

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Cherie Murbach ’14, Heather Handy ‘14 and Madeleine Vespieren ‘12 competed for Gonzaga in the NCAA Rowing Championships held on Lake Natoma this past weekend.

Murbach, who competed in water polo and track at St. Francis, Handy (golf) and Vespieren (tennis) were on the Second Varsity 8 for the Zags and helped the team to a 17th-place overall finish. It was the second NCAA appearance in school history after the team won the West Coast Conference title.
