Tennis Posts 9-0 Win over Monterey Trail

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomores Megan Khan and Jordaine Tran both posted straight set singles wins to help the St. Francis tennis team to 9-0 victory over Monterey Trail on Wednesday. It was the sixth straight win for the Troubadours.

“Today’s match went really well,” said Khan. “We played really well and did pretty great. I don’t think we lost a set so that was pretty impressive.”

Khan, who played at No. 5 singles, recorded a straight set 6-1, 6-0 win over Lily Wang.

Tennis Wins Close Match at Franklin

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Freshman Kyla Jackson pulled out a three-set victory at No. 3 singles to clinch the 5-4 victory over Franklin Monday afternoon for the St. Francis tennis team.

“We knew it was going to be a super tough match,” said Head Coach Kristi Spector.  “For us to pull out the match was huge. They are a really strong team. It was good.”

Franklin defeated Davis earlier this season 8-1, a team St. Francis lost to 6-3.

Tennis Sweeps Sheldon to Improve Win Streak

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman Kiya Jackson led the charge with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles as the St. Francis tennis team posted a 9-0 victory over Sheldon Wednesday afternoon at Rio del Oro Racquet Club. It was the fourth straight win for the team.

St. Francis (5-2) swept all nine matches on the afternoon, dropping a total of 10 games in six singles matches and seven games in three doubles matches.

Tennis Wins Third in a Row

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis swept all nine matches to post a 9-0 win over Elk Grove Monday at Rio del Oro Racquet Club. The Troubadours swept all six singles and three doubles matches in straight sets.

Senior Annie Gianulias and freshman Kiya Jackson both improved to 6-0 on the season with straight set wins in singles.

The Troubadours improve to 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in Delta League action. They return to the court on Wednesday against Sheldon at 3:45 p.m. at Rio del Oro.

Tennis Wins Two Matches in BOSS, Finishes Fifth Overall

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team went 2-1 and finished fifth in the Best of Sacramento Showcase Saturday. The Troubadours defeated McClatchy 7-2 and Roseville 8-1 on Saturday after opening the tournament with a 5-4 loss to Del Oro Friday.

Davis Hands Tennis First Defeat 6-3

DAVIS, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team lost at Davis 6-3 in the first meeting between the schools as members of the Delta League Wednesday afternoon.

“Overall, it was a good team effort,” said Head Coach Kristi Spector. “We knew it was going to be a tough match. By playing them today, we are going to learn a few things about them and we play them on our home courts next time. It is good to have a really tough match.”

Tennis Opens Season with 8-1 Victory over Pleasant Grove

ELK GROVE, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team opened the 2014 season with an 8-1 victory over Pleasant Grove in their first Delta League match of the season.

“We have a super young and talented team,” said Head Coach Kristi Spector. “We had a lot of nerves today about the match but the girls came out and played really well. The girls were ready to go and wanted to get that first league match under their belts.”

Troubadours to Compete in New Delta League

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis will play in the Delta League beginning this fall with many familiar faces and several new ones.

“The Delta League has a lot of history and it is great it is back in existence,” said Delta League Commissioner Ron Nocetti.

The Troubadours move into the newly formed Delta League along with Pleasant Grove and Sheldon from the Delta River League. The league is a realignment of members of both the Delta River and Delta Valley Leagues.

Gregg Named River Cats Girls Soccer Player of the Year
17 Troubadours Named to All-City Teams

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis junior soccer player Anna Gregg was named the River Cats Girls Soccer Player of the Year at the High School Awards Ceremony before Sunday’s game against the Tacoma Rainers.

“It means so much and feels so great,” said Gregg of the Player of the Year honor. “I set a goal to help to the section championship and that was accomplished. I could not be happier.”

Gregg and her St. Francis teammates captured the Sac-Joaquin Section title on Saturday on her goal to defeat Oak Ridge 1-0.

17 Troubadours Named to River Cats All-City Teams

SACRAMENTO, – Calif.  – Seventeen St. Francis Troubadours have been named to the 2013-14 River Cats All-City  teams and will be recognized on Sunday at the High School Sports Awards Ceremony before the River Cats take on the Tacoma Rainiers at 1:05 p.m. at Raley Field.

The St. Francis All-City fall sports selections include senior golfer Emily Laskin, volleyball seniors Ali Koumelis and Anna Baytosh and cross country runners Lauren LaRocco, Madison Rawson and Miranda Myers.

Four Student-Athletes Honored by SFHS Booster Club

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The SFHS Booster Club recognized four senior student-athletes at the 2014 Awards Ceremony.

Senior Lauren LaRocco was named the SFHS Booster Club Scholar-Athlete Scholarship recipient, while Brinnley Barthels, Emily Laskin and Jane Sadler were named winners of the SFHS Booster Club Leadership Scholarship.

#FeatureFriday: St. Francis Athletics Adds Ketcham as Assistant AD for Sports Medicine

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Bumps and bruises are her specialty but Kelly Ketcham brings much more to the St. Francis High School community.

Ketcham was named the Assistant AD for Sports Medicine for the St. Francis Athletics Department staff recently after working with the Troubadour student-athletes and teams as the school’s athletic trainer for the last four years. The title was effective in November 2013.

Three Troubies Earn DRL Player of the Year Honors

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Three St. Francis seniors were named the Delta River League Player of the Year for their respective sports following the fall season.

Ali Koumelis earned the honor for volleyball after leading her team to the Delta River League title, the Northern California finals in the CIF State Tournament and runner-up at the Sac-Joaquin Section Tournament.  Koumelis, who signed to play at Portland, joined teammates Anna Baytosh, Lea Felton, Chloe Hakim and Megan Sullivan on the Delta River All-League team.

Tennis Season Ends in Section Quarters; Four Earn All-League

LOOMIS, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team has its season end in the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs Tuesday with a 9-0 loss at Del Oro.

“We knew going in today it was going to be a tough match,” said Head Coach Kristi Spector. “Del Oro has not lost all season. I wanted my girls go out and play the best they can. I wanted it to be a culmination of all the hard work from day one of tryouts all the way until the end.”

The Troubadours were swept in straight sets in all six singles matches and lost each of the three doubles but fought hard until the end.

Tennis Posts Strong Performances at League Singles and Doubles

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Jane Sadler and Kendall Spector reached the final of the Delta River League Super Doubles Thursday before dropping a three-set decision to Rachel Leibrach and Teia Chalamcharla of Oak Ridge 2-6, 7-6, 6-4.

“They started off on fire to win the first set 6-2 and lost in a tiebreaker in the second set,” said Head Coach Kristi Spector. “They never gave up their composure or their hope. They played the best tennis they have played all season. They played unbelievable.”

Tennis advances to SJS quarterfinals with win over Turlock

TURLOCK, Calif. – The St. Francis tennis team won five of six singles matches and swept the doubles to post an 8-1 victory over Turlock Tuesday afternoon in the second round of the CIF Sac-Joaquin Division I Girls Team Tennis Championship.

“We did not know what to expect so we came out with the girls going for it,” said Head Coach Kristi Spector. “We are seeing a lot of girls peeking right now, especially the doubles teams, and the singles are getting stronger. To see it come together is great.”

Turlock entered as the No. 1 seed out of the Central California Conference.
