Water Polo Places 10th at Nor Cal Championships

ATHERTON, Calif. – St. Francis lost 9-2 t Clovis West to finish 10th in the Nor Cal Championships Saturday. The Troubadours split two games on Saturday. Jenna Barthels scored the game winner as St. Francis defeated Acalanes to advance in the first game Saturday before falling to Clovis West in the finale.

Ally Tambornini scored six goals over three games to lead the Troubadours.

Water Polo Garners No. 2 Seed in Section Bracket

ATHERTON, Calif. – The St. Francis water polo team split two matches on Friday, falling 9-7 to Miramonte in the opener and winning 6-5 over Soquel at the Nor Cal Championships in their final preparation for the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs.

Senior Ally Tambornini scored twice and five players added a single tally including Jenna Barthels, Maggie Oys, Kira Chavez, Sam Reinl and Frances Barbour. St. Francis fell behind 9-3 before rallying for four goals in the fourth quarter to cut the final deficit to two.

Water Polo Rolls to 27-0 Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Madalyn Lavezzo, Hannah Warren and Kira Chavez each scored four goals to lead St. Francis to a 27-0 win over Monterey Trail in a Delta League water polo match Wednesday at Jesuit High School.

Overall, seven players scored two or more goals in the game. Junior Sally Ferguson tallied three scores, while Frances Barbour, Sam Reinl and Aubree Barr found the cage two times each. Jenna Barthels, Ally Tambornini, Caroline Urkov, Kobe Carpenter, Julie Zanobini and Rocky Mudd also scored for the Troubadours.

Water Polo Splits Two Matches at Woodcreek

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Ally Tambornini scored three times as St. Francis defeated Sonora 9-3 to finish pool play 1-1 on the first day of the Woodcreek Tournament.  The Troubies lost to Monte Vista 7-3 earlier in the day.

Senior Maggie Oys added two goals and four players had single goals in the contest including Kira Chavez, Caroline Urkov, Sam Reinl and Sally Ferguson.

In the opener against Monte Vista, Reinl scored two times and Julie Zanobini also found the cage.

Water Polo Shuts Out Franklin

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Three players scored three goals each and seven with multiple goals as St. Francis blanked Franklin 24-0. Overall, 14 players scored for St. Francis.

Ali Tambornini had a team-best seven assists to contribute to the offensive explosion.

St. Francis (6-1) is off before traveling to St. Mary’s on Sept. 24.

Water Polo Splits Two in Tournament

ATHERTON, Calif. – Maggie Oys and Jenna Barthels combined for seven goals as St. Francis defeated St. Ignatius Friday at the St. Francis Autumn Invitational.

The Troubadours jumped out to a 5-1 and cruised to the victory as seven players scored in the match. Seniors Kira Chavez, Caroline Urkov, Julie Zanobini and Sam Reinl scored. Junior Hannah Warren and sophomore Kobe Carpenter also added a goal for St. Francis.

Barthels added four assists in the game, while Urkov had three.

Water Polo Scores 19 in Win over Granite Bay

GRANITE BAY, Calif. – Senior Maggie Oys scored five times among six players who tallied multiple goals in the game as St. Francis opened the 2015 season with a 19-5 win over Granite Bay.

Senior Caroline Urkov, sophomore Kobe Carpenter and senior Julie Zanobini each scored three goals in the win, while senior Jennalyn Barhtels and Kira Chavez scored two each.

St. Francis competes in the St. Francis Autumn Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Mountain View.

Water Polo to Scrimmage in Mountain View

SACRAMENTO, Calif.  – The St. Francis water polo programs will scrimmage on Saturday at St. Francis Mountain View with teams from Clovis and St. Francis. Both teams will play three matches and the scrimmages will consist of 5 nine-minute running periods with a two-minute break. The JV will play 5 seven-minute periods.

Water Polo Standout Charter Named to All-America Team

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Former St. Francis water polo standout Lauren Charter ‘15 was named to the 2014-15 NISCA/Speedo Girls All-America Water Polo third team.

Charter scored a team-best 55 goals and 78 points to lead the Troubadours to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Division I finals for the third consecutive season in 2014. A three-time USA Water Polo Academic All-American, she earned all-section and All-Delta League first-team honors and finished her career with 109 career goals.

Troubie Trio Help Gonzaga at NCAA Rowing

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Cherie Murbach ’14, Heather Handy ‘14 and Madeleine Vespieren ‘12 competed for Gonzaga in the NCAA Rowing Championships held on Lake Natoma this past weekend.

Murbach, who competed in water polo and track at St. Francis, Handy (golf) and Vespieren (tennis) were on the Second Varsity 8 for the Zags and helped the team to a 17th-place overall finish. It was the second NCAA appearance in school history after the team won the West Coast Conference title.

River Cats All-City Team
11 Troubaours Receive Local Honor

The Sacramento River Cats recognized their 2014-15 All-City team before today’s baseball game. Eleven Troubadours were selected to the respective sports all-city teams and senior soccer player Anna Gregg was named the River Cats Girls Soccer Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.

Top of the Class: Student-Athletes Rafeld and Cunningham to Take Center Stage at Graduation

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Seniors Annie Rafeld and Cami Cunningham are shining examples of a senior class that has made an impact on the school and the entire Troubie community. On graduation night, they will receive the ultimate honor as the chosen representatives for their class. Rafeld, who is from Granite Bay, is the valedictorian, while Cunningham, a Yuba City product, is the class salutatorian.
