Swimming and Diving Finishes Fourth at Section Finals

LODI, Calif. – The St. Francis swimming and diving team finished fourth at the Sac-Joaquin Section Championships on Saturday at Tokay High School.

“Today was a good day,” said Head Coach Richard Levin. “Coming into this season, I didn’t think we would be able to get fourth. I knew we were in a fight against Rio (for third) starting today. We ended up 10 points behind but I could not be prouder. It is bittersweet because this senior class has a lot of kids I am going to miss. It is sad to see them be done.”

The 200 individual medley relay opened the meet winning the consolation heat with junior Elizabeth Fugit, senior Laila Akhavi, junior Taylor Koewler and senior Emily Peters clocking a time of 1:52.59.

“I love the relays,” said Peters. “The 200 free relay was fantastic and I thought we did really great. We had a lot of fun before the race on the blocks.”

Senior Chloe Mitchell and Katie McIntee both scored in the 200 free. Mitchell was seventh in 1:52.98, while McIntee placed ninth in 1:53.92 by winning the consolation heat. Mitchell also tied for the top finish on the day with a sixth-place in the 500 free in 5:02.24.

“It didn’t really go like I was hoping in in terms of times but the relays were good,” said Mitchell. “I am excited to finish off my high school season with this team and glad I am headed to college. It has been a really great four years. I do not know how to describe it. It was fun and a new experience.”

Peters touched sixth in her signature event the 50 free in 24.23, tying Mitchell for the top finish and earning consideration for a spot in the CIF State Championships. She also placed 14th in the 100 free (54.34).

“It is a little surreal,” said Peters of her final meet. “It was a good meet all around and the team did good.”

The Troubadours had two finalists in the 100 fly, Junior Tatum Roepke was 13th in 59.48 and Koewler was 16th in 1:00.23. Senior McKenna Peterson scored in the 500 free by placing 16th in 5:33.56.

The 200 free relay (McIntee, Roepke, Mitchell, Fugit) was eighth in 1:40.83 and the 400 free relay with seniors Mitchell, Peters and McIntee joining Roepke closed the meet with a sixth-place finish in 3:40.76.

“The final relay was awesome with the three seniors and Tatum,” said Peters. “We are handing over the reins to her. It is a little sad and emotional.”

St. Francis was fourth overall with 168 points behind Granite Bay (321), Davis (310) and Rio Americano (178).

“To see the journey we have taken together and see them today in their last high school meet, it is sad but also awesome,” said Levin.

The Frosh/Soph team also finished fourth overall behind Granite Bay, Whitney and Woodcreek.
