Volleyball Wins Second Straight League Match
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team had fun Thursday and it showed in their play in a straight-set win over Elk Grove 25-16, 25-21, 25-15.
“We played so well and it was so fun,” said senior Mary-Kate Schildmeyer. “It was one of the best games we have had all season. We all made the decision to have fun and go after it, relentless, and not to let any balls drop.”
St. Francis (11-5) posted one of their best efforts of the season, winning their second straight Delta League matchup to improve to 2-1 on the season.
“They had fun and it was obvious,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “When they were having fun out there, it made all difference in the world. They played for each other tonight. The things we have struggled with recently, they seemed to pull it together.”
It was the second of three straight home games for the Troubadours.
“It was what we needed, exactly,” said Schildmeyer. “We can go out with our shoulders forward and go after Mitty this weekend.”
St. Francis travels to San Jose to play in the Archbishop Mitty Showcase Saturday.
“You have to play against the best to get better,” said Wright, whose first coaching job was at Archbishop Mitty. “For us, we need to see some really good competition for us to get better for the second half of the season. We want to continue to build what we did tonight and play with less unforced errors to continue to build team, consistency and trust.”
St. Francis plays four games in the tournament against Menlo, Monte Vista, Granite Bay and Mitty. Host Archbishop Mitty is ranked No. 7 in the nation in the latest MaxPreps Xcellant 25. They are the defending Division II state champions.
