Swimming Preseason Information

1. Season Start Date: Monday, February 6th

2. Season Goals: Win Varsity and F/S Sections; Win DL Champs -Stroke Improvement – Participation - Be Part of the Team – Team Spirit

3. Team Website – All St. Francis Swimmers are required to register on

the team site. If you do not register you will not be on the team. Registration must be completed

before participation on the team will be permitted.


Basketball Takes Lead in Delta League with Win over Elk Grove

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Seniors Julia Razo and Janae Fairbrook each scored 19 points as St. Francis defeated Elk Grove 60-55 on Wednesday to take over first place in the Delta League standings.

“We are all on a high right now,” said Razo after the game. “We are just really happy we pulled through.”

St. Francis (16-7, 9-1) pulled ahead with key three-pointers and a big advantage at the free throw line, making 15-of-22 on the night.

This Week in Troubie Sports…

Spring Sports tryouts and practices start on Monday, Feb. 6, while basketball and soccer continue regular season play. Soccer hosts Elk Grove on Tuesday at Granite Regional Park. The team will host a Booster Que and is asking all fans to bring a can food donation in return to be donated. For a complete list of Athletic Events, click here.


Basketball Downs Davis for Third Time

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis varsity basketball team hit 12 three-pointers to defeat Davis for the third time on the season and remain tied for the first in the Delta League with a 76-67 road win Monday night.

“One of the oldest axioms is it is hard to beat a good team three times,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “Coming into their house we knew we are going to have our best performance. We played a fantastic first half. Davis gave everything they had and they never gave up as they fought down to the wire.”


Soccer’s Avila to Sign with Fresno Pacific

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior soccer player Ariana Avila will sign to attend and play soccer at Fresno Pacific on soccer’s National Signing Day on Wednesday, Feb. 1. Avila will participate in a ceremony at St. Francis at 9 a.m.

“I have committed to Fresno Pacific University,” said Avila. “The coach emailed me out of nowhere after seeing me play in a tournament. He invited me to his camp and I toured the campus. It had everything I wanted in a home for college. He offered me on the spot.”


Senior Razo Leads Basketball to Holy Hoops Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Julia Razo scored a game-high tying 27 points to lead St. Francis to a 79-65 win over Christian Brothers in front of a sold out crowd of 1,200 fans Saturday afternoon in the annual Holy Hoops rivalry game.

“We were all in the moment, play by play, giving it our all,” said Razo, who reset her career-high for points in a game. “Our adrenaline really helped us and we maintained a pretty good composure for a big game like this.”

Basketball hosts its annual PAL Tournament this weekend. The Troubies host Grant on Tuesday and travel to Pleasant Grove on Friday before hosting Holy Hoops on Saturday. Get to Know: Soccer’s #24 Aly Shebert

Aly Shebert is in her second season on the varsity team after previously playing only club soccer. She has also run track at St. Francis but decided to go out for soccer last year. This year she has the opportunity to compete in both with the move to winter. She hopes to play club soccer in college.

What does it mean to you to play on the team at St. Francis?
“For me, it means being a family and it like having a second family at St. Francis. You see them every day and get along with them. You learn to work together as a team.”


Senior Janae Fairbrook Scores 41, Hits 11 Three-Pointers in Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Janae Fairbrook had a big night on Tuesday, scoring a career-high 41 points and made a St. Francis school record 11 three-pointers, including 10 straight in the first half.

“I was not really counting during the game,” said Fairbrook, whose career best was six entering the game. “They just kept adding up.”


Volleyball’s Edwards named Finalist for Freshman of the Year

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis freshman Alexa Edwards was named one of 20 finalists for 2016 National High School Freshman of the Year.

“Alexa is one of the best freshmen I’ve ever coached,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “She is one of the hardest workers in the gym and her volleyball IQ is incredible.” 

Edwards was selected among 150 nominated players that made “massive” varsity impacts as freshmen.


St. John the Evangelist Wins St. Francis P.A.L. Title

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Congratulations to St. John the Evangelist for winning the 2017 St. Francis P.A.L. Invitational title 40-29 over St. Mel on Sunday in the championship game.  SJE advanced to the title with wins over St. John Notre Dame and St. Francis.

St. John Notre Dame was third overall after a 37-8 win over St. Ignatius. St. Charles Borremeo won the consolation title with a victory over Holy Spirit. Other participants includes St. Francis, St. Patrick’s and St. Rose.


Moody to Speak at Girls in the Game Event

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis Water Polo Coach Heather Moody will be a speaker at the Girls in the Game event hosted by the Positive Coaching Alliance at Sacramento State on March 2 from 5-8 p.m. The cost is $20.

Girls in the Game is designed to educate and empower young female athletes to be the voices and leaders of our future, while also giving them specific tools to further their current athletic and personal goals.


Get to Know: Basketball’s #30 Julia Razo

Julia Razo is in her fourth season overall and third full season with the varsity team (she was called up freshman season). She was a black belt before concentrating on basketball. She plans to play in college next season but has not chosen a school yet. She is averaging a career-best 11.6 points and 4.9 rebounds this season and scored a career-best 22 against Antelope on Saturday.


Alumna Beth Balbierz ‘11 Making Impact on the Sideline

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Coaches can be role models for their players in many ways. Alumna Beth Balbierz ‘11 is not only a former player at St. Francis but Division I starter at Cal Poly and now she is passing on her program and basketball knowledge to the players on the Junior Varsity team.

“It is fun but different,” said Balbierz. “There is more anxiety on this side of the ball as I have learned. The girls are really smart players so it is easy to coach them. They catch on quickly.”

Basketball Resets Single-Game Scoring Mark in Win

ELK GROVE, Calif. – The St. Francis basketball team shattered the school record for points in a game with 99-54 in a win over Monterey Trail on Friday.

“The energy, effort and intensity was there,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “We are really learning how to rebound and how to go after our missed shots. It is really making a huge difference.”

The team broke the school record of 94 points set vs. Ponderosa on Feb. 21, 2008 and it was just the fifth game of 90 points or better in school history.


Wong, Defense Help Soccer to Win over Franklin

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Meridith Wong scored the game-winning goal in the second half to give St. Francis a 3-2 win over Franklin on Thursday.

“Elise (Urkov) played it through and I took a touch and whacked it,” said Wong. “It feels amazing. I feel lucky to have been able to be playing and make a difference for my team.”

Wong’s goal put the Troubadours back on top after the Wildcats erased a 2-0 first-half lead.

Get to Know: #12 Isabella Quiniola

Isabella Quiniola is in her first season on the varsity team and third year in the program. She started dribbling a basketball when she was four years old and has played the game ever since. She babysits in her spare time and  has two older sisters that attended St. Francis, Victoria ’13 and Natalia ’12.


Varsity Basketball Wins Non-League Game at Antelope

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Julia Razo scored 22 points to lead St. Francis to a 68-59 win over Antelope on Saturday.

“We had a lot of contributions from a lot of people,” said Head Coach Vic Pitton. “Two pf the people who really contributed were Logan Kelly, who played a really solid game offensively and defensively, and Jorie (Keitges). She played her best game as a varsity basketball player.”

Kelly had seven points in the game, while Keitges contributed nine points for the second straight game to surpass her total off 11 points over the first 14 games.


JV Basketball Wins Double Overtime Thriller at Antelope

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Sophomore Krysta Alvarez scored a game-high 15 points including five in the decisive second overtime period as the St. Francis JV basketball team posted a 67-61 win over Antelope Saturday.  

“Krysta, when she gets in a zone, can really shoot the ball,” said Head Coach Gary Ender. “Today it was the three ball. Lily also provided us with a lot of offense.”

The Troubadours remained undefeated on the season at 16-0 in their toughest test to date.


Soccer Comeback Downs Elk Grove

ELK GROVE, Calif. – The St. Francis varsity soccer team posted a 2-1 comeback victory over Elk Grove on Thursday behind second-half goals by freshman Marli Berry and sophomore Janae DeFazio with assists by sophomore A.J. Tanner and senior Ariana Avila.

Elk Grove took the early lead with the only goal in the first half after a slow start by the Troubadours. After having their game postponed on Tuesday due to the rain storm, the Troubies were sluggish coming out on Tuesday.


Frosh Basketball Wins Sixth Straight, Posts Big Win

PLACERVILLE, Calif. – Tara Keene had 12 points, five rebounds and three assists to lead the St. Francis freshman team to a win over El Dorado Wednesday afternoon. The Troubadours scored 35 points in the first half led by Keene and held El Dorado to just one point. It was the sixth consecutive win for the Troubadours.
