Vaulters Clear New Heights at Mustang Invite

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis track and field team continued to get strong performances on Saturday from their vaulting unit, winning two competitions at the Delta Mustang Invitational.

The SF pole vaulters took first in Frosh/Soph and Varsity divisions on Saturday. Senior Olivia Birmingham won varsity with vault at 9-0, while freshman Meghan Ladd won the F/S competition.

Pitton Named Optimist Head Coach

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis Head Basketball Coach Vic Pitton was named the coach of the South team for the upcoming Optimist All-Star game on Saturday, April 8.

“It is certainly a privilege and an honor to coach such dedicated athletes,” said Pitton, who won his 300th career game this season and led the Troubies to the NorCal quarterfinals.

Pitton, who also coached the team in 2015, will coach a group including seniors from St. Francis, Elk Grove, McClatchy, West Campus and Vanden among others.

Mile, Sprints, Hurdles and Relays Highlight Second Day at Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Junior Sydney Vandegrift ran the second-fastest time in school history in the mile, finishing 12th in the mile in 5:03.08 and the Troubadours had several performances in the relays and sprints to wrap up the action at the second day of the Stanford Invitational.

“It is such a great opportunity to run with these fast girls,” said Vandegrift. “We talked about staying in a good position and being a little more ambitious.”

Vandegrift just missed the school record in the event set by Peyton Bilo in 2015 (5:02.21).

Track and Field Defeats Davis in Dual

CARMICHAEL, Calif. – The St. Francis track and field team defeated Davis 75-60 on Wednesday. The Troubadours recorded several season-best performances in the meet. Senior Meaghan Rogers had personal bests in both the 100 meters (12.49) and 200 meters (26.00), finishing second and third respectively.

Kathryn Kramer and Amanda Roina were the top finishers in the 400m, placing third and fifth. Each recorded a personal-best. Alana Reyna was the top finisher in the 1600 with a personal-best time of 5:33.55.

Endicott Leads Divers in Monterey Trail Sweep

RIO LINDA, Calif. – Junior Julia Endicott was the top scoring diver Wednesday to the top place in a meet with Monterey Trail on Wednesday. She scored 160.35 for her six-dive total. Freshman Maddy Miles was second with a 138.90 and sophomore Sam Pajo was third. The Troubadours have a big week next week, hosting Franklin and Sheldon on Wednesday and the Jesuit Invitational on Saturday.

​Softball Falls to Elk Grove

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis softball team fell to Elk Grove 11-0 on Thursday. Senior Lauren Washburn went 2-for-2 for the Troubadours to record the only hits for the Troubies.

Victoria Lowe held SF scoreless over five innings, recording nine strikeouts and no walks.

Elk Grove hit three home runs in the contest.  Senior Jada Kanemasu took the loss, giving up four runs on five hits over 2.2 innings.

St. Francis hosts Sheldon on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

This Week in Troubie Sports…

Spring Sports continue play this week. Lacrosse travels to Davis on Tuesday and Bishop O’dowd on Thursday. Softball hosts Sheldon on Tuesday and travels to Franklin on Thursday. Diving hosts Franklin/Shelon on Wednesday and the Jesuit Invitational on Saturday. Swimming is at Franklin and Sheldon on Wednesday and competes in the California Catholic School Challenge on Saturday. Track and Field will be represented at the Arcadia Invitational.

Lacrosse Wins Senior Night over Bella Vista

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. – Senior Grace Passantino had four goals and sophomore Jade Borg and junior Juliette Vielhauer each added three goals as the St. Francis lacrosse team posted a 19-2 win over Bella Vista.

The Troubadours recognized their six seniors in a ceremony before the game, including Sarah Brust, Emily Bish, Kismit Gill, Avery Myers, Passantino and Sarah Westover. SF built a 13-1 lead in the first half and cruised to the victory. The Troubies improved to 7-3 and 3-1.

Softball Scores 14 in Win over Grant

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -The St. Francis softball team recorded their first Delta League win with a 14-3 victory over Grant on Monday.

“I was really excited to see them hit the ball hard today,” said Head Coach Kevin Warren. “We had the three home runs and couple hit real hard right at people.”

St. Francis had a season-high 14 hits and scored 14 runs as five players recorded two or more hits I the contest. Chloe Smith, Makayla Scott and Mary Baccay had home runs in the game. Catcher Julia Perkins recorded a career-high three hits in three at bats.

Track and Field Competes at Macres Invite, Bronco Distance Carnival

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Senior Meagan Rogers won the 100 meters in 12.63 at the Mark Macres Invitational on Saturday hosted by Monterey Trail High School, highlighting several top times and marks for the Troubadours.

Freshman Isabella Palchek won the Frosh/Soph high jump with a clearance of 5-0, while classmate Meghan Ladd won the Frosh/Soph pole vault by extending her own freshman school record with a 9-6 clearance and also finished second in the high jump (4-8).  Olivia Birmingham finished fifth in the varsity pole vault at 9-6.

Spring Sports continue play this week. Lacrosse hosts Senior Night against Bella Vista on Tuesday. Softball travels to Davis on Tuesday and hosts Elk Grove on Thursday. Swimming and diving host Monterey Trail on Wednesday. Track and Field Wins Elk Grove Meet

ELK GROVE, Calif. – The St. Francis track and field team defeated Elk grove 79-47 on Tuesday in a Delta League dual meet.

Senior Meaghan Rogers won the 100 meters in 12.66, while senior Aly Shebert was second in the 200m in 27.02. Sophomore Taylor Givens was the top finisher in the 400m, placing third in 1:04.30 and senior Meredith Wong was third in the 800m (2:48.70).

In the hurdles, sophomore Serena Shimada won the 100m hurdles in 16.60 and senior Elizabeth Hennessy claimed the 300m hurdles in a season-best 45.79.

Lacrosse Defeats Vista 15-3

MATHER, Calif. – The St. Francis lacrosse team completed the season sweep with a 15-3 win over Vista del Lago on Tuesday.

“It was a big team effort and we got a lot of people involved,” said Head Coach Julia Southard. “Our offense looked pretty fluid and we were capitalizing on our scoring opportunities.”

Jade Borg, Sarah Westover and Grace Barger each scored three times in the win.

Softball Falls to Christian Brothers in Albie Aware Game

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis softball team lost to Christian Brothers on Saturday 4-3 in the annual Albie Aware games at River City High School.

“We have been playing much better the last few games and we started off well,” said Head Coach Kevin Warren. “We opened the door on a couple of plays defensively. They capitalized and scored four run off it.”

Sophomore Sydney Littles went 3-for-4 with two runs scored to pace the Troubadours offense.

Diving Posts Strong Results vs. Davis

RIO LINDA, Calif. – The St. Francis diving team recorded the top two places, four of the top five and nine of the top 10 performances on Wednesday against Davis in the dual with the Blue Devils.

Junior Molly Wilson had a season-best 266.85 to lead the team, posting a score pf 266.85. Junior Julia Endicott was second with a season-best 189.45. Camille Lutes had her season best with a 132.45 to finish fourth and Allie Belafsky scored a season-best 126.15.

Overall, 11 divers had season-best performances against Davis.

Westover Records 100th Career Goal in Win at Palo Alto

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Senior Sarah Westover, a USC signee, scored six goals to help St. Francis to a 17-8 win over Palo Alto Tuesday night. Westover, who entered the season with 83 goals, notched her 100th goal with her fifth goal of the game and added a sixth to finish with 101 for her career.

St. Francis improved to 5-1 on the season entering the match with Sacramento Valley Lacrosse rival Oak Ridge on Friday at Mather Sports Complex.

Alumna Carpenter Named Mountain East Player of the Week

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. – Lyndsay Carpenter has been tabbed the Mountain East Conference women’s lacrosse defensive player of the week.
 
Carpenter, a junior defender from Sacramento, California, guided the Cardinals defense to its first ever victory over a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opponent last Tuesday.  The Cardinals held Edinboro to 11 goals on their way to a 13-11 victory.

Basketball Season Ends in CIF NorCal Quarters

BRENTWOOD, Calif. – The St. Francis basketball team was eliminated from the CIF Division I NorCal Regional quarterfinals on Saturday with a 63-48 loss to No. 3 Heritage.

‘We ran out of gas and we had some foul trouble that altered the rotations and we just did not make some shots we normally do,” said Pitton. “It was not for lack of effort. We played hard and kept coming back at them but we ran out of gas.”
