St. Francis Track Student-Athletes Collect Shoes for One World Running

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior track and field student-athletes Ellie Linn and Madison Rawson recently organized a campaign to collect used running shoes for the One World Running organization.

“I realized I had a ton of shoes in my closet that I did not need or use,” said Linn. “I searched for a place to donate them and found the organization (One World Running). I suggested it to Madison and we got the team involved.”

Cross Country’s Moreno a Great Example of Spirit of Sport

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior cross country runner Macee Moreno was nominated for the CIF Spirit of Sport award. This award recognizes student-athletes based on exemplary sportsmanship, school/community service and leadership.

While she was not selected, she was recognized with a certificate from the CIF recognizing her nomination in a presentation at the Feb. 13 basketball game by Athletic Director Mark McGreevy. She will have a chance at a $1,000 scholarship among the other nominees for the award.

Six St. Francis Seniors Make Commitments
Troubies Sign Offers with Pacific, Georgia Southern, Portland, UC Santa Barbara, Ole Miss and Bellarmine (Ky.)

Six St. Francis Seniors Make Commitments

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Six St. Francis High School seniors signed a National Letter-of-Intent or made a commitment to play collegiate sports next year at schools across the country Wednesday.

They were recognized on campus after school and will be part of the school’s formal spring signing day recognition. Overall, 24 Troubadours have made commitments this year to continue their athletic careers next year at the collegiate level.

Standout LaRocco Commits to Portland

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Lauren LaRocco has committed to run for the University of Portland this fall. She will officially sign her National Letter-of-Intent on Wednesday.

“I am really excited,” said LaRocco. “There are so many benefits to running in college. It is going to be a really fun experience. I have been told on my visits how great it is to be part of a team. It sounds like a blast.”

Portland is coached by Ian Solof. The Pilot cross country team finished ninth at the NCAA West Regionals and second at the West Coast Conference meet.

Distance Standout Madison Rawson Commits to Ole Miss

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Madison Rawson has verbally committed to attend Ole Miss next fall and run for the track and field/cross country program.

“I really like the community at Ole Miss,” said Rawson, who has competed for the St. Francis cross country and track and field programs. “The coaching staff and team are really welcoming. I am excited to be part of the Ole Miss program.”

#FeatureFriday: St. Francis Athletics Adds Ketcham as Assistant AD for Sports Medicine

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Bumps and bruises are her specialty but Kelly Ketcham brings much more to the St. Francis High School community.

Ketcham was named the Assistant AD for Sports Medicine for the St. Francis Athletics Department staff recently after working with the Troubadour student-athletes and teams as the school’s athletic trainer for the last four years. The title was effective in November 2013.

Three Troubies Earn DRL Player of the Year Honors

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Three St. Francis seniors were named the Delta River League Player of the Year for their respective sports following the fall season.

Ali Koumelis earned the honor for volleyball after leading her team to the Delta River League title, the Northern California finals in the CIF State Tournament and runner-up at the Sac-Joaquin Section Tournament.  Koumelis, who signed to play at Portland, joined teammates Anna Baytosh, Lea Felton, Chloe Hakim and Megan Sullivan on the Delta River All-League team.

Cross County Places Three in Top 20 at State Meet
Team Finishes Ninth Overall

FRESNO, Calif. – St. Francis placed three runners among the top 20 to lead the team to a ninth-place finish overall Saturday at Woodward Park.

“We knew our team would show up well prepared,” said assistant coach Mason Myers. “The girls had two weeks since our last race to mentally prepare. Lauren, Miranda and Madison all had huge PRs on this course. It was very exciting.”

Leader of the Pack: LaRocco, Troubadours Take on State Championships

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Lauren LaRocco has always liked running. She just did it in a different form, chasing a ball. Now she is racing against the clock and leading a St. Francis team into Saturday’s CIF State Cross Country Championships with a chance to win some hardware.
“I am trying not to really have any expectations,” said LaRocco, who enters the meet ranked fourth in Division I according to CalPrepTrack.com. “I just want to run my best. I will do the best I can.”

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Madison Rawson had participated in a running club in Pensacola but had never been part of a team. One long distance call and four years later, she is one of the elite runners in the state of California on one of the best teams heading into the CIF State Championships on Nov. 30.

Rawson, who lives in Roseville, moved to the area from Florida just prior to her freshman year. Before arriving or even attending her first day at her new school, Sacramento’s St. Francis, she was signed up for the cross country team by her parents.

Cross Country Earns State Berth with Second-Place Section Finish

FOLSOM, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team placed three runners in the top five but was edged by Davis for the Sac-Joaquin Section title in a close race Saturday at Willow Hills Reservoir.

Davis scored 37 points to 43 for St. Francis to claim the team title. Woodcreek finished third to round out the three qualifiers for the CIF State Championships from the section.

Former Troubadour Nicole Mendoza at Home in Final Race

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – It was the perfect ending for Nicole Mendoza to be finishing her career where it began in her hometown.

A 2009 graduate of St. Francis, Mendoza competed as a fifth-year senior for UC Irvine at the NCAA West Regionals hosted by Sacramento State on Friday at Haggin Oaks.

“It was awesome,” said Mendoza. “All of my old coaches are here. My family is here. It has been really great to run here for my last race.”

Cross Country Advances to Sac-Joaquin Section Meet

ANGELS CAMP, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team cruised to a fourth-place finish to easily earn a berth in the Sac-Joaquin Section meet next weekend. The top 10 teams advance from the Subsection.

Camille Boudreaux was the top finisher for the Troubadours, clocking a 20:20 time for a 12th-place finish. Peyton Bilo finished 21st in 20:41, while Chase Worthen was 26th in 20:48 led a large group of St. Francis runners. Worthen joined Ariel Medina, Miranda Myers, Madison Rawson and Lauren LaRocco who crossed the line almost simultaneously.

LaRocco Leads Cross Country to Third Straight DRL Title

FOLSOM, Calif. – Senior Lauren LaRocco won her third consecutive Delta River League title to lead the St. Francis team to the team title. The Troubadours placed four runners among the top 10 and six among the top 13 in the race, winning the league title for the third straight season.

“It felt good today and it was really fun,” said LaRocco. “Our top five were taking it a little easy and it was fun to run as a pack. We gave a little extra at the end.”

LaRocco led the field with a time of 18:41 to win her seventh race of the season.

Cross Country Finishes Fifth in Mt. Sac Team Sweepstakes Race

WALNUT, Calif. – The St. Francis cross country team placed three runners among the top 10 and finished fifth at the prestigious Mt. Sac Girls Sweepstakes race Saturday morning.

“We were able to beat several of the top rated teams in the state and it gave our girls a huge boost,” said assistant coach Mason Myers. “Matching up in the Mt. Sac Sweepstakes is a great dress rehearsal for the state meet.”

Laura Frazier
Assistant Track & Field Coach/Cross Country

Laura Frazier is in her fourth year coaching both cross country and track and field at St Francis. For track, she focuses on the high jump.

Frazier ran four years of indoor and outdoor track at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich. She mainly competed in the high jump, triple jump, and long jump.

Her background in collegiate athletics and experience as a nurse helps her take great care of the St Francis student athletes.

She earned Bachelor of Science in nursing at Calvin in 2012 and currently works at UC Davis Medical Center.
