River Cats to Honor 11 Troubadours with All-City Honors

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Sacramento River Cats will honor 11 St. Francis student-athletes as members of the 2014-15 River Cats All-City teams in a ceremony before the game against Memphis on Sunday, May 24 at Raley Field.

The 11 Troubadours include Ariane Arndt, track & field; Jennalyn Barthels, water polo; Peyton Bilo, cross country/track & field; Danika Bailey, softball; Lauren Charter, water polo; Lauren Craig, basketball; Anna Donald, volleyball; Anna Gregg, soccer; Kylie Green, volleyball; Chloe Mitchell, Swimming; Nicole Spring, track and field. Mitchell and Gregg are receiving the honor for the second consecutive year.

Junior Ariane Arndt, who is from Folsom, is having a spectacular season on the track. Arndt, who has the seventh-fastest time in the 800 meters in the nation this season, won the event at the Sacramento Meet of Champions, Arcadia Invite and Delta League Championships and has won the event six times overall. She was a section qualifier in 400 and 800 meters and ran on both relays, winning the 4×400-meter relay as the leadoff leg.

Water Polo junior Jennalyn Barthels of Sacramento was named the team’s Best Offensive Player. She ranked second on the team with 46 goals and recorded 10 assists, earning section second-team honors and Delta League first-team selection.

Senior Peyton Bilo, who is from El Dorado Hills, helped the Troubadours finish third at the CIF State Championships, recording a Top-10 finish for the fourth consecutive season and third top-five placing in the last four years. She finished 30th overall. During track season, she has set a pair of school records and enters the section meet this week as a double qualifier in the 1600 and 3200m. She will run at Cal Poly next fall.

Bailey is a candidate for the Delta River Player of the League. The Cal signee hit a league-best .642, an average that ranked among the Top 100 players in the country and fifth-best in the section, with 18 RBI and a league-best 55 runs scored  (2nd-best in the SJS) and 32 stolen bases (9th-best in the SJS). She hit safely in 28 of 30 games and recorded 25 multi-hit games. The Natomas product was also fourth in the league in slugging percentage. Bailey was also named the team St. Francis MVP and named to the Optimist All-Star Game.

Basketball player Lauren Craig, a junior, was selected the team’s Outstanding Defensive Player. She recorded over 60 blocks on the season, finishing the regular season with three or more blocks in six straight games. She averaged a double-double on the season, recording 11 individual double-double games on the season. She had a career-high 19 boards in a win over Bella Vista on Jan. 8.

Soccer player senior Anna Gregg, who was the 2014 River Cats Soccer Player of the Year, led St. Francis to Sac-Joaquin Section final last Saturday. She scored a Delta League best 32 goals on the season in 2015 with a league-best 72 points. She also recorded eight assists, the second-best total in the league. The Colorado College signee recorded three or more goals four times season and recorded 12 multi-goal games during season.

Senior water polo player Lauren Charter scored a team-best 55 goals and 78 points to lead the Troubadours to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Division I finals for the third consecutive season. A two-time USA Water Polo Academic All-American, she earned all-section and All-Delta League first-team honors in 2014. She finished her career with 109 career goals and will compete for California next fall.

Volleyball’s Anna Donald, who is from Sacramento, recorded 197 kills and 90 total blocks on the season for the Troubadours. She was a Delta League first-team choice. She had season-highs of 14 kills against Woodcreek and 10 blocks versus Granite Bay. She signed with UC Davis to play volleyball next season.

Senior volleyball player Kylie Green was a Sacramento Bee All-Metro selection while helping the team to a section semifinal appearance. Green, who is from Gold River, led the Delta League with a 437 kills during the season while averaging 3.7 kills per set, the second-best mark in the league. She ranked seventh in Division I in kills (29th in the state). She had 24 games of 10 or more kills, earning selection to the Delta League first team. She has signed with UC Irvine.

Junior Chloe Mitchell, who is from El Dorado Hills, swam a personal-best in the 500 freestyle for the second straight race, finishing fourth with a time of 4:56.05 at the section meet to earn an automatic qualifier for the first CIF State Swimming and Diving Championships. She also was a consolation finalist in the 200 freestyle.

Junior Nicole Spring, who is from El Dorado Hills, won the Delta League long jump with a leap of 17-5 after setting a school-record in the with a second-place finish in the triple jump to advance to the section meet in both events.
