Water Polo Posts 17-9 Victory over Bella Vista

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Lauren Charter scored five times and juniors Jenna Barthels and Maggie Oys each added three goals as St. Francis beat Bella Vista 17-9 Wednesday night.

“I think we came out tonight and we really wanted to win,” said Barthels. “We came out as a team and we tried our hardest and that put us in lead in the beginning.”

St. Francis jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the first quarter and led 8-4 after the teams each scored twice in the second period. The Troubadours extended the lead in the third with five goals to take a 13-6 lead after three quarters.

“It felt good,” said Barthels of the win. “We got a good rotation of all of our players and we got to get a good feel of everyone playing. It was a real team win.”

Charter led the team with her five goals on nine shots with two assists and four steals. Junior Julie Zanobini had two goals and a team-best five assists. Junior Caroline Urkov also scored two goals and recorded two assists. Hannah Milanowski and Sally Ferguson each added goals in the victory.

St. Francis plays in California Capital Challenge this weekend in Woodcreek starting with a 2:30 p.m. matchup Friday afternoon against Los Lomas.

The JV team posted a 7-6 overtime win over Bella Vista in the opening game Wednesday.
