2014 Basketball Highlights

  • St. Francis advanced to the second round of the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs, losing to McClatchy. The Troubadours defeated Edison in the first round. They went 6-4 in Delta River League action, finishing third overall in the standings.
  • Junior Susie Rogers was named the Outstanding Offensive Player on the varsity team. She averaged 9.6 points per game, the second-best total on the team, while recording 5.5 rebounds per contest and a team-best 3.2 assists.

2013 Cross Country Highlights

  • St. Francis finished ninth at the CIF State Championships, recording a Top-10 finish for the third consecutive season. Senior Lauren LaRocco finished sixth overall and junior Miranda Myers was 10th.
  • St. Francis was second overall in the Sac-Joaquin Section meet to Davis.
  • LaRocco won her third consecutive Delta River League title to lead the St. Francis team to the team title.

Softball Places Four on Sac Bee All-Metro Teams

SACRAMENTO, Calif.  – Senior shortstop Alejandra Garcia and first baseman Amy Marks were named to the Sacramento Bee All-Metro second team announced Thursday.

Garcia posted a .443 batting average with a team-best 35 hits and 30 runs scored for the Troubadours, earning All-Delta River League honors. She was also the winner of the team’s Most Inspirational Award.

Marks, who was also a DRL first-team selection, batted .432 on the season with a team- best 30 RBI. She was the recipient of the Coaches Award.

Four Volleyball Players Participate in Optimist Game

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Four St. Francis players were selected for the Optimist All-Star Volleyball game and played for the South team in a three-set loss 26-24, 25-23, 25-23 on June 5 at Capital Christian High School.

The Troubadours were represented by outside hitter Anna Baytosh (Chico State), libero Chloe Hakim (UC Irvine), setter Ali Koumelis (Portland) and middle blocker Megan Sullivan (UCSB). The team was coached by Zara Budenbender of Bella Vista High School.

4×400-Meter Relay Among the Nation’s Best

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis 4×400-meter relay performance at the CIF Track and Field Championships was not only one of the top in the state of California this season but ranks ninth overall in the nation according to the latest performance lists on Athletic.net.

The Troubadour foursome ran a spectacular race to close the CIF Track and Field Championships Saturday night, clocking a school-record time of 3:45.02. St. Francis finished third in the race behind national leader Long Beach Poly (3:38.05) and sixth-place Piedmont Hills 3:43.63).

Track and Field Closes Season with Two Top-Five State Finishes

CLOVIS, Calif. – Senior Lauren LaRocco and the 4×400-meter relay both earned top five finishes in the final two races of the meet as the St. Francis program placed 21st overall at the CIF Track and Field Championships Saturday.

LaRocco entered the meet with the ninth-fastest seed time but was determined to finish her career on the podium (top-six finish). She raced like it Saturday.

She settled into the middle of the pack to start and executed her game plan over the eight-lap race.

O’Brine Finishes 12th in the Discus at the State Championships

CLOVIS, Calif. – St. Francis senior Kayla O’Brine finished 12th in the discus with a throw of 126-9 at the CIF Track and Field Championships Saturday afternoon.

“It was nice to come here and finish my senior year strong,” said O’Brine, who advanced to the finals with a throw of 142-6 in the prelims on Friday.

The Elk Grove product was one of three throwers competing in the finals for the second consecutive season. She also finished 12th as a junior and was a three-time qualifier overall.

4×400-Meter Relay Benefits from Strong Bond

CLOVIS, Calif. – The St. Francis 4×400-meter relay team was seeded third entering the state meet and they did not disappoint in the preliminaries winning their heat in 3:47.91 and posting the third-fastest time.

“It is a great night for St. Francis track and field,” said Head Coach John DuCray. “This is only second time we have qualified a 4×400-meter relay for the state meet and now we are going to the finals with a legitimate chance to be top-five.”

Enes Gains Experience in the 400 Meters

CLOVIS, Calif. – Lilly Enes finished fourth in her heat and 16th overall with a time of 57.15 in the 400 meter preliminaries Friday night. It was the second of three races for the sophomore on the night.

“I didn’t think I ran that well today,” said Enes, who ran the third leg of the 4×100-meter relay to open the meet. “I did not feel like I was running my best. My start was not that fast. I was supposed to get out faster and I think that affected my whole race.”

Enes returns in the final event Friday night for the 4×400-meter relay.

4×100-Meter Relay Finishes 20th at States

CLOVIS, Calif. – The St. Francis 4×100-meter relay ream clocked a 48.83 to finish fifth in their heat and 20th overall.

“We went out there and tried to do our best,” said Schnabel.

Sophomore Kiani Reyna led off the relay before handing to junior Sydney Hunter. Sophomore Lilly Enes ran the third leg and handed to senior Amanda Schnabel, who ran the close the leg.

Reyna, Enes and Hunter will return Friday night in the 4×400. Schnabel, who will run at Bellarmine University in Kentucky next fall, completed her career with the relay event.

O’Brine Advances to State Finals in Discus

CLOVIS, Calif. – Senior Kayla O’Brine advanced to the Saturday finals in the discus with a fourth-place finish in the preliminaries at the CIF Track and Field Championships.

“I came in wanting to throw as well as I could,” said O’Brine, who signed with UCSB. “I was just focusing on my form. Going through my three throws, everything felt really smooth and easy.”

O’Brine won her heat with a throw of 142-6 and finished fourth overall among the qualifiers. The Top 12 advanced to the finals on Saturday that will include a cut to nine after three throws.

Sophomore Lilly Enes on the Fast Track

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Lilly Enes has always been fast. But she was chasing a soccer ball instead of a time. After one season on the track, she has had a lot of success and will cap her initial season at the CIF State Championships this weekend in Clovis, Calif.

“It means a lot to me,” said Enes of her track success. “I did not think I was going to come this far. I was trying it out and wanted to do something new after soccer. It is all a lot to me.”

Varsity Softball Postseason Awards

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis softball team finished the season with a 13-11-1 overall record with a 5-5 record in Delta River League action.

Alexis Viramontes was the team MVP. She hit .356 on the season with 24 RBI.

Alejandra Garcia was selected as the Most Inspirational, leading the team in hitting with a .443 batting average with a team-best 35 hits and 30 runs scored.

Senior Amy Marks was named the Coaches Award recipient after hitting .432 on the season with a team-best 30 RBI and went 8-5 with a 2.90 ERA on the mound.

Track & Field Advances to State Meet in 6 Events at Masters
Arndt Wins Masters 800 Meters, LaRocco Takes 3200 and 4x400 Wins

ELK GROVE, Calif. – The St. Francis track and field program had a big day at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters meet, qualifying in six events for next week’s CIF State Championship meet.

“We are so excited to be on the big stage of Masters and moving on,” said assistant coach Mason Myers. “This is what we work for from the beginning of the season, getting personal bests and records geared towards doing well at the big meets and getting your ticket punched to the state meet.”

O’Brine Qualifies for State Meet; Troubadours Advance Both Relays and Five Individuals into Masters Finals

It was part of an impressive night that saw four student-athletes qualify in five finals Friday night at the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters meet with an opportunity to advance to next week’s state meet.

Troubadours Look to Qualify for State Championships

ELK GROVE, Calif. – Senior thrower Kayla O’Brine will compete in the finals of the Sac-Joaquin Section Masters meet Thursday, as part of a contingent of seven student-athletes competing in 10 events Thursday.

O’Brine, who has reached the state championships each of the last three seasons, will be the only St. Francis athlete eligible to clinch a spot Thursday in her contested final with the rest of the events serving as prelims for Friday’s finals.

Lacrosse Coach Wilson to Leave Program

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis lacrosse head coach Kristy Wilson will not return for the 2015 season in order pursue personal opportunities out of state.

“We thank Kristy for all her hard work and dedication to the St. Francis lacrosse program as she takes on a new chapter in her life,” said Athletic Director Mark McGreevy. “She has been a great leader and role model for our young ladies in the program and played a significant role in the development of the St. Francis program.”

Varsity Lacrosse Postseason Honors Announced

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis lacrosse team placed six players on the Sacramento Valley Lacrosse Conference All-League team, including three first-team selections. Juniors Hayley Kusserow, Ryleigh Bone and Erika Palmer were all first-team selections as selected by the league coaches.

Track and Field Defends Section Title in Tight Finish
Troubadours Set Five School Records in Winning Effort

ELK GROVE, Calif. – The St. Francis track and field program was in a familiar position Friday night heading into the final relay with a chance to win the Sac-Joaquin Section title. For the second consecutive year, the 4×400-meter relay sealed the win completing a record-setting night for the program that resulted in the school’s sixth section title and third in the last five seasons.

“We had some really good performances all day long,” said Head Coach John DuCray. “We had a strong open 400 and finished 1-3-4. It was a real big difference maker.”
