JV Volleyball Wins Carmichael Invitational

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis junior varsity volleyball team won the Carmichael Invitational Saturday. The Troubadours beat El Camino, Davis, Roseville, Sonora on the way to the finals. They then beat Christian Brothers for the second time this week to improve to 7-0 on the season.

The team returns to action on Tuesday when the program travels to Rocklin. The freshmen and JV play at 4 p.m. with the varsity game at 5 p.m.

Alumnae Return with UC Santa Barbara Volleyball Team

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The drive down Elvas Avenue to St. Francis High School was very familiar but this time they kept driving by their former school en route to the gym at Sacramento State.

“On the bus I was really excited,” said UCSB freshman Megan Sullivan about driving by the school. “I was (telling everyone) that was my high school and pointing out where we go to eat all the time after school. No one really cared but Noa and I were really excited and took videos and everything.”

Volleyball Beats Granite Bay in Five

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – It was fitting that the two teams that battled for championships last season would have another tight contest Thursday. But St. Francis turned the result around in winning a close five-set match with defending state champion Granite Bay Thursday night, posting a five-set win.

Volleyball Sweeps Christian Brothers Highlighted by 3-1 Varsity Win

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team defeated Christian Brothers 3-1 Wednesday night in front of sold out crowd of 1,200 cheering students and fans from both schools in the annual Holy Court matchup.

“They played together as a team and they played for each other,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “Each kid really had key plays at big times. I was really excited for them. They have been working very, very hard. The seniors dream about this game. I am really proud and excited for them.”

Water Polo Opens with Big Win over St Mary’s

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Four players scored two or more goals and the St. Francis defense made a strong season opening statement in posting a 12-4 victory over St. Mary’s of Stockton Tuesday night.

“It was a great win,” said Head Coach Heather Moody. “It was a good opening to the season and everyone got to play which was huge. It was a good overall team win.”

St. Francis built a 3-0 lead in the first quarter and extended the advantage to 7-1 at the break. Julie Zanobini scored twice in the first along with captain Hannah Milanowski.

Holy Court Highlights Big Week for Volleyball

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball program hosts the annual Holy Court matchup Wednesday as part of a week that features matches against three of the Sacramento area’s top teams. In addition to Sacramento Bee No. 1 Christian Brothers, the Troubadours travel to No. 6 Oak Ridge Tuesday and host defending state champion Granite Bay on Thursday.

Soccer’s Barrett to Play in Republic Futures Match

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis junior soccer player Hailey Barrett has been selected to participate in the Women’s Futures Match at the Sacramento Republic FC game on Thursday, Sept. 4. Special ticket prices are setup for St. Francis families and students to attend the game. The Women’s Futures Match is a game to highlight some of the top female soccer players in the Sacramento Area. Sacramento is a hotbed for talented women soccer players and has produced a plethora of successful collegiate athletes, including recent St.

Volleyball Falls in Semifinals of High Sierra Invitational

RENO, Nev. – The St. Francis volleyball team lost in the semifinals of the High Sierra Invitational Saturday, falling in straight sets to Sonora 25-21, 21-9. It was their fifth match of the day and eighth overall in two days.

The Troubadours, who are ranked No. 3 in the Sacramento Bee preseason poll, went undefeated throughout the first seven games of tournament, dropping just two sets during that span. St. Francis opened perfect in Pool play on Friday, posting wins over Reno (25-14, 25-23), Woodcreek (26-24, 25-16) and Elk Grove (22-25, 25-17, 15-12).

Cross Country Opens with Strong Performances at Oakmont Invite

ROSEVILLE, Calif. – Seniors Miranda Myers and Peyton Bilo led the varsity team with top-three finishes at the season-opening Oakmont Invitational Saturday at Maidu Park.

The Troubadours finished third as a team behind Oak Ridge and Woodcreek. St. Francis also had strong showings in the Frosh/Soph and JV races. Freshman Ava Nkadi won the first race of the day in her first high school performance, crossing the line in 15:17. Junior Juliet Batturaro won the JV race in 17:24. All three races were at the 4K distance to open the season.

Freshman Diver Coss Records Strong Performance at Far Westerns

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Freshman Julia Coss recently completed a strong performance at the Far Westerns hosted at Santa Clara University with her Capital Divers team coached by St. Francis Head Coach Dede Crane. She finished first on platform and was second on both the 1- and 3-meter boards. She will compete for St. Francis in the spring.

St. Francis Volleyball Senior Kylie Green Commits to UC Irvine

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior Kylie Green has given a verbal commitment to UC Irvine to play volleyball next fall. She is the second Troubadour to make a commitment this fall. The National Letter of Intent signing day is Nov. 12.

“Kylie is ready to explode as a player,” said Head Coach Alynn Wright. “She is hitting so much more consistently and confidently. She sees the block so much better and she is stronger and quicker. She is doing really well.”

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Anna Donald considers herself a late bloomer on the volleyball court. After recently committing to play at UC Davis in 2015, she is blossoming with energy and excitement entering her senior season at St. Francis.

Troubadours to Compete in New Delta League

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis will play in the Delta League beginning this fall with many familiar faces and several new ones.

“The Delta League has a lot of history and it is great it is back in existence,” said Delta League Commissioner Ron Nocetti.

The Troubadours move into the newly formed Delta League along with Pleasant Grove and Sheldon from the Delta River League. The league is a realignment of members of both the Delta River and Delta Valley Leagues.
