2018 Track and Field Highlights

  • Sophomore Isabella Palchak made the CIF State meet for the first time in her career. She qualified by finishing third at the Section Masters meet. She also won the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I meet with a season-best 5-7 clearance to record the second-best jump in school history and won the Delta League title this year. She was the Troubadours only representative at the state meet. She did not record a height in the final.
  • St. Francis finished seventh at Sac-Joaquin Section Division 1 meet with 24 points. Sophomore Haley Silva was fifth in the 800 meters and freshman Reyna Johnson was sixth in the 100m hurdles. The 4×100-meter relay (Johnson, Chanel Grimes, Saniyiah Williams, Isabell Grassel) placed seventh. Palchak was the top finisher for the team. Other Masters qualifiers includes Grassel (100m, Long Jump), Silva (1600) and 4x-400-meter relay. Grassel and Silva were the only competitors to qualify for two individual events.
  • St. Francis finished second in a tie with Sheldon to Davis for the overall girls Delta League title.
  • The Troubadours broke five school records during the season including the 5000 meters by sophomore Emma Hollenbach (20:03.29), pole vault by sophomore Meghan Ladd (12-0), 60m hurdles by Reyna Johnson (9.8) and two relays including the 4×200 relay (Johnson, Grimes, Grassel, Duffy) and 4×100 shuttle hurdles (Shimada, Palchak, Duffey and Johnson).
  • Senior Sydney Vandegrift was named the SFHS Booster Club Scholar Athletes of the Year at the school’s annual awards banquet. Vandegrift was six-time letter winner in track and field and cross country. She helped the Troubadours to three consecutive top-10 finishes at the CIF State Cross Country Championships and back-to-back section titles. She has also ran in the final of the 3200 at the state track and field meet as a sophomore. She was a three-time All-Delta League selection in cross country and has signed to run at UC-Berkeley in the fall. She posted a 4.24 cumulative weighted grade point average and was the school’s Dale Lackey Scholarship nominee.
  • Freshman Reyna Johnson broke two freshman hurdle marks in the 60m hurdles and 100m hurdles (15.08), as well as 60 dash and 300m dash marks. Grimes established two junior marks in the 60 and 300 meters, while Rudis ran the fastest 60m by a senior.
  • Four student-athletes will continue their careers in college: Bella Rudis (Chapman), Erica Cradeur (Creighton), Alana Reyna (Sonoma State), Vandegrift (UC-Berkeley).
